    Thought I'd hit a jackpot

Recently, I spent $50.00 and bought 50 pounds of cast lead, mostly 45's and some 50's--smokepole stuff, or so I thought. A buck a pound for clean lead, sure, why not? But when I got home I noticed that in the bottom, underneath the big stuff, was a bunch of what seemed to be 429-421 Keith's, already lubed and sized, nearly a thousand of them. I was feeling smug until I measured one--.411. Curse you, .41 magnum. Ah well, I will smelt them down with the rest of the stuff, but for a few minutes, I was thinking I had scored big time. .44 SWC's for a buck a pound, nearly a thousand, sweet! Only not so sweet.

I guess I could buy another gun...

Don’t melt them! Trade them!, you will get what ya want, some caster with a .41 will be smiling!! Just my opinions.
I firmly believe that you should only get treated by how you act, not by who or what you are!!

This is exactly the reason why you need to buy a really nice .41Mag.
    Maybe even a Marlin CB.

This falls into the category of buying a new gun to complement the range pickup brass that's making a face at you. Need has nothing to do with it!

I use that argument when someone asks me, "What do you need that for"?
Like when my Dad asked me why I 'needed' a single shot .50BMG.

    However:
I've had much better luck with the head of accounting by using the word 'need' instead of 'want'.

I want a bolt action 50 too, just can't afford one. Not to mention I'd have to find and pay to shoot at a longer range I belong to. Then you need a scope which costs as much as the 50. Think about the primers, much more powder and lead to reload, Gotta buy a mold for that beast.

I saw a few of them on top of the counter a while back for sale at Knob Creek Gun Range, nice place to visit.

A man can dream about em though.

    Yeah.
But wait till you get a a load of the reloading costs for them now....

I got in & out of a Serbu and a State Arms one before the prices went stupid.
In the old days, you had to buy primers in five cartons of 500 each for $282.00. (2,500 total of them)
And Mr. Bartlett had pull down powder at around $8.oo a pound, maybe less for 4 one gallon jugs of it (32lb).
and pull down GI brass was something like $75.oo for 125 of them- shipped.
GI pull down 750gr. FMJ were pretty affordable for a .30 ammo can full of them too.

There was also plenty of NATO surplus loaded rounds for $1.25 each, by the hundred.
Hornady AMAX 750grs were around $15. for a box of 20.

It seems like I remember just the primers are over a couple hundred bucks for 500 of them now.

Get the .41. You will love it. I had to change the grip due to finger nerve issues but love that caliber.

the last lead I melt are already cast bullets, and my buckets are not that empty yet. I have some 50 cal monsters that I picked up 20 years ago and figure maybe someday I can do something with them. if you only have very limited alloy maybe offer to trade in s&s there seem to be an awful lot of folks on here that dont cast but use pre cast bullets.
but then again the Henry 41 mag is an awful nice gun and a bargain compared to an older marlin

    I disagree.

I recently acquired a pair of "really nice .41's." A sweet 3-screw Blackhawk,, & a Redhawk with a Burris scope.

As for melting the already cast bullets,, I've done a little of that. But I agree that you should either buy a gun,, or swap your bullets to someone else for what you may need.
