    Are you a Christian First?

Just wondering. Are you a Christian first and foremost, or are you an American first? Is your allegiance to Christ, or is your allegiance dependant on the situation at hand?

I try to be a Christian first, but it's a struggle. My feet have been mired in this earth, this country, this job, these hobbies, -- for 65 years. I pray earnestly for guidance, focus, and to be filled with the Holy Spirit. I see and feel improvement, but it still doesn't take much to knock me off the rails. jd
It seems that people who do almost nothing, often complain loudly when it's time to do it.

    Politics is temporary but Jesus is the King of Kings and Lord of Lords eternally! Daniel 2:21 - He changes times and seasons; he removes kings and sets up kings; he gives wisdom to the wise and knowledge to those who have understanding;

I saw an article not too long ago that politics is becoming the new religion. I can see truth in this when seeing how many people are engaging in political activism. As Christians, our job is to not let our savior be second place to this false religion. As overwhelming as the news and all the "influencer" voices can be, I will not be conformed to this world but be transformed by the renewing of my mind. I will take every thought captive to Christ's obedience.

Yesterday I told the girl I was not a Caucasian.
She said to just check the box and put my mask back on.

I am convinced a person can be a Christian without being an American.
I am not convinced a person can be an American without being Christian.

1792 we were Christians, first, then created America's covenant with God.

The children burn liquor stores because they are "free".
I do not burn liquor stores because I am a Christian.
Being a Christian makes me very free. Free from sin.
Paul wrote "None are righteous, no not one".
I am not perfect yet, I'm still alive, but I am free.
This is what America was. Now we are wage-slaves.
"Where your treasure is, there your heart will be".
There's your idol parked in your driveway.
Teach your kids to stay out of the road or they'll be sacrificed.
We've become a chevy worshiping car culture, tithing to GMAC.

In many countries your national identity is also your religion.
    Shinto, for example.
My national identity is the Constitution
which promises the gov't will not interfere with me.

Our founding fathers were certainly more Christian than modern politicians.

    Ghandi's parting shot:
"I admire your Jesus", Ghandi said, "But I do not like His Christians".

So we have become unlikable Christians and failed The Great Commission.

For me, I saw the Light and realized what it meant to be an American.

Why do I consider myself a Christian? First of all, I have been given the sacraments of Holy Baptism. Every person baptized with the ancient saying of "In the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit" to enter into communion with Christ becomes a Christian. Second, I am a devoted member of the Church. A baptized Christian becomes a member of the Church by the sacrament of Anointing, in which the gifts of the Holy Spirit are imparted to them. And third, the efficacy of the sacraments is not determined by linguistic, cultural, national, political, or other environments. Being baptized in America, I can be a Christian in other parts of the world. These are just the basics; if you are a Christian and want to know more about the responsibilities of Christians, our Church's website at https://firstchurchlove.com has everything in great detail.

Most of founding fathers were definitely not Christians (saved by grace) they believed in a God, but what god we don't really know. Jesus is never mentioned in any of founding documents.

I am an American by accident that happened without any input from me.

I am Saved because I willing choose to believe on Jesus.

The King of England was the Pope of the Anglican church. Their Queen still is. We combined treason with heresy by revolting. The penalty was hanging. Our founding fathers wrote out a different plan with neat checks and balances and appealed to God to make it work. They certainly knew who Jesus was, and made no public display of piety until Franklin (the Deist) called them to prayer.

Their plan was for you to be Free to serve God any way you want. Free from gov't church.

That's all. Nobody ever tried that before.
We might say Freedom is God-given.
No, so sorry, Freedom is musket-given.
America today does not know what free means, because we aren't anymore.
We woke. We conform. We owe. We idiots.

A group of Quaker, Catholic, Anglican, Baptist, Deist, agnostic, do you think they would agree on religion? They didn't and didn't have to; they signed the first amendment and practiced their piety in private.

Here is the non-woke old guy version...
They had slavery as an accepted fact they could not change,
left it to the States that wanted slavery to be slavers.
If you lived in a slave state, you could own slaves.
Free to own slaves? Not any more.
Counting all causes a million men died to settle slavery in America for all time.
Our Founding Fathers compromised on slavery to form a Republic,
they had no way to address slavery at the State level,
and besides, some owned slaves, there could be no solution at that time.

The woke want our Founding Fathers to be slavers, monsters, white guys,
but they were people just like us, likely better educated because they could write in English.

Our Founding Fathers were Americans risking everything they had, win or die, to create this country.
    Men we should call Heroes.

The bean counters will object to my count of a "million" casualties, most accounts cite the number of battlefield dead that were very countable, missing might have gone home or been burned in a thicket. Wounded went home to live or die, gov't didn't much care. Men women children died of disease and starvation caused by that war, did anybody bother to count Black civilian deaths? "Million" from all causes might be a low number, only God knows the total.
Did we learn any lasting lessons from "The War of Northern Aggression" or will history repeat?
Do the kids even know there was a Civil War?

I sure like to think that I am, although I would imagine I fall short of that more often than not.

Certainly a Christian first-- but the comparison to being and American is apples to oranges. The Bible gives me a blueprint for how to live properly (moral instruction). Being an American enables me to live free (mostly). That is important, but has nothing to do with my morals.

No need. Salvation is a gift you can accept anytime you want. Any "Christian" who tells you works are required needs to read some scripture.

If you accept Christ as your savior your going to glory that's called your Standing that's permanent.

Your Fellowship with Christ is your State which for the most part is always Fluctuating.

We are all going to Sin until we get out of this body that just our Sad State.

    But keep reading and pedaling.

Eternity will last a really long time. If we are not Christians first it hardly matters whatever else moves up from second on our list because it won't last very long anyway.

    You will never make it.

I have to wonder to whom and how are you trying to "measure up"? Fact is, no one has ever been "good enough" to obtain salvation. God is perfect, weare not// Jesus is the righteousness of the saved, not we ourselves; WE will never be "good enough".

There is no half-way house/purgatory for us to pay off any failings of our own; Jesus has already paid the penalty for our human failings, all of them and that depends in whom we place our faith,
    Him or ourselves!

Bottom line, no matter what any man or denomination tells us, our salvation - if any - is total. And it's a free gift, fully bought and paid for by Jesus, alone, in return for our total faith/trust in Him as savior.

I'll say it again, salvation is a free gift to us and paid for by Christ, it's not something any human can deserve or earn by good works. In fact, [u]salvation, the New Testament "gospel", is the good news that God's unearned, undeserved grace (love), not works,[/i] is all about! And God himself is the underlying source of our belief. (See Eph 2:8-9)

None of us can ever have spiritual peace if we think our salvation will, at the end, come down to some future measured judgement of how good we may (or may not!) have been. Only when we fully accept that Jesus has already paid the penalty for our sin debt can we ever truly rest in the deep inner peace that surpasses human understanding! (See John 3:17-18 and 14:27; Romans 5:1-21)

well its an easy one for me...because Im a Christian and a K1W1..... so being American doesnt even factor....

and before anyone starts on the racist thing....we are all one race...the human race...I may be a bit of a tribalist, some say Im a bit rightwing, definately a bit redneck....Im a 27th generation crossbred Kiwi and proud of it.

agree with you 1hole.....saved by grace NOT by works...no one since poor ol Job has been up to measure, and boy oh boy didnt ol Satan give that fella a hard time??? nope not even slightly interested in being put to the test like he was, stuff that for a game of soldiers ...
give me clean living and just doing my best to be my best... thats all I am capable of,we are all sinful beings, the sooner we accept it and just get on with living as best we can,the better off we shall be.
