This is my plumbers lead pot with it's original pot. Notice the clearance around the top.


I would like to use this larger pot but I'm concerned about it's clearance at the top. Is it to close? Will it cause any problems?

If it worked then, it will work now. Pb melts the same way it did back in it's day.

I use one very similar to re-melt COWWs and scrap all the time. Just make sure you can pick up the HEAVY put full of molten lead!

The clearance on the original was to allow the flames to lap up the sides and heat the pot faster. If you plug that up with a fatter pot, there is very little area for the heat to rise and get out, you will only slow down the heating times. Stick with the original and you will be OK. I am!

I'd try it and see if it works. I would not get rid of the original pot until I was very sure the replacement works though.

The smaller gap may not allow the needed draft for air flow up making keeping the burner lit harder. It may not be able to draw enough air up to run at higher settings. Like the old air tight wood stoves when the dampers shut down the wood just smoldered because of the lack if oxygen. Try it and see

I guess I'll just have to give it a try. If it doesn't heat well, I might be able to use a spacer of some sort to raise it up some.
