Powder coating pistol bullets - Cerakote?

I ordered some powder coating from Prismatic and there was nothing in my Amazon order that mentioned Cerakote. But that's what I got. There were no instructions in the box, just a bag of red powder.

Can I use Cerakote to powder coat my 230 gr 45 ACP cast bullets? If so, what temperature and for how long?

    ------------

Added later in post # 11

"I was misled by the box the PRISMATIC powder came in. It has both PRISMATIC and CERAKOTE on the box, but the label with my address was covering PRISMATIC so all I could see was CERAKOTE. "

Load up a bunch and tell us how it goes. I'm sure the nay sayers were sure the world would end when the first guy said he wanted to try powder coating boolits. See how that turned out.

I wouldn't do it, but is your time/money. Could create a mess with sizing, leave residue in barrels, be tough to apply evenly, etc.

Hard to say why it won't work without doing it. However, I think the odds are against you. Your idea, run with it.

Read up on how loved "moly" was back in the 90's and the issues it created on coated bullets. Ruined a lot of barrels.

Cerakote™ was founded in 1984 with a mission to develop and manufacture the highest performing line of ceramic coatings

Hint there ceramic... not what I want to put down my barrels.
    But you do you

Cure time for cerakote is 2 to 3 hours at 250 to 300. It’ll be slow going.

Your question was “can” it be done, and of course it can. I wouldn’t bother with it, but I get tired of waiting for powder coat to cure and it’s fast.

What is in Cerakote? Like Smoke mentioned, if it is ceramic based then it will be like fire lapping your barrel with every shot.

Using it to fire-lap...you might be on to something...

    Prismatic Powder

I was misled by the box the PRISMATIC powder came in. It has both PRISMATIC and CERAKOTE on the box, but the label with my address was covering PRISMATIC so all I ccould see was CERAKOTE.

    I ordered this from Amazon : https://smile.amazon.com/dp/B08C5M41...roduct_details

Here's my Lee 230 gr .452 tumble lube mold bullets fresh out of the oven. Preheated the oven to 400°F. Gave them 20 mins after the coating started glistening.

    Prismatic powders - Astatic Red

Ya know those sheets of paper that had sugar candy Dots that you would tear off and eat? Well, that's what I have, only my Dots are red and really heavy. Stuck to the foil. There are now perfect mirrors on the backs of my bullets.

Did you use non stick foil?
Due to the price of primers, warning shots will no longer be given!

Is there a preferred way to cool the bullets after baking? Can I just dump the tray directly into a tub of water right out of the oven?

Yes, but you'll have a different bhn for a few weeks until the lead molecules rearrange themselves. If you have an accuracy load, I'd like to hear about testloads made from water dropped vs air cooled bullets

Sure is. and it is a blessing when you start to pull the coated boolits out of the pan.

Yes use non stick aluminum foil and let bullets cool completely and they will come off the foil like magic. Don't let them get cool and you have weird shaped aluminum foil gas checks.
I literally have over 75 batches of bullets cooked on the same piece of AL foil
    Or use parchment paper.

I order a couple of good quality silicon baking sheets like you would put in a pan to bake cookies. Work extremely well and are reusable. The cheaper sheets will buckle up when heated and cause the bullets to stick together. I have also had a lot of bullets stick together when dropped in a water bucket. I have a couple of pans and let the bullets air cool.
