Unique works great in most any cast rifle load. I suggest that you experiment with ladder loads if you are also after getting best accuracy. Different rifles of the same model and different bullets of the same weight can like slightly different load weights.

I have been using a T/C blackpowder push button powder measure to load nice low recoil loads in 44-40, 30-30,30-40, 30-06 & 38-55. I also use it for the .41 magnum, but those are medium recoil.
It dispenses 9 grs of Unique.

I "think" this is one of those stories that started around the idea that Unique starts having pressure spikes if loaded above 10 grains in rifle cases. However, I reserve the right to be full of crap. If Larry Gibson happens to weigh in, he pretty much has the data to back up any pressure/powder claim out there. For my part, I've used Unique in everything from 22 Hornet to 50-70 Government and never had a lick of problems. I'm going to peruse Lyman's 50th and verify what calibers where Unique isn't recommended. I'm betting that list will be a short one.

10 grains of Unique is about the top charge most recommend for the 30-30 as far as my memory goes. With the light bullets I would rather have a 5 to 6 grain charge of Red Dot, or maybe about 5 grains of Bullseye. As mentioned above I'm sure Larry has worked the spectrum with Unique and will have suggestions.
    Good Luck,

What is your reasoning for this response?

To the OP…. I have loaded many 30-30 with 115gn CBs over 6gn-9gns of Unique powder. These were mainly for dad to shoot when he could no longer handle the recoil of full power rounds. These rounds have very little recoil, you can reload the brass over, and over and over. I have loaded the same brass cases so many times I lost count. They are very cheap to shoot. You can harvest small game and it does not destroy any meat. I do not use any case filler. Never had a problem. I enjoy loading and shooting them ALMOST as much as dad does. It’s a great load for young shooters as well as aging shooters too. Have fun.
