    Winchester 1886 problem

Picked up an original 1886 that worked perfect before loading it, it won't lift the round up, the carrier will lift when no round is in it but only comes up about half way when lifting a round.
Anyone have an idea of what's wrong?
    It's chambered in 45-70.

First thing I would check is the carrier lifter spring retaining screw up under the top tang - make sure its together correctly and the screw fully home. After that ......life gets more difficult - I have never owned an old one so cant help with wear induced prroblems.

    Perhaps the spring itself.
