Hole in bottom plate on Star sizet

Fellas; I am rednecking an abused Star. This one has hole in the base just about centered in the tube that holds the lube. Hole has been threaded and filled with a round headed bolt, which appearance I find offensive. The bolt head is obviously not visible when the press is mounted and seems to seal the hole, so I could learn to live with it. Would JB Weld work to fill the hole?

Yes , round headed bolts can be quite offensive .
How offensive ... I mean how big is the hole you wish to un offensively plug ?

Is this the bleed hole which is supposed to prevent over filling of the cylinder?

Have the sizer cleaned out now and think I have a problem. The hole was someone else’s response to a problem. It appears that the ‘pressure spring piston screw’ is broken and the associated parts are stuck inside the lube cylinder. I called Magma and was told to send it in for repair. Any Star gurus with a better idea? I know my limitations have been reached, and some of the parts are listed as factory only, so Magma may be the way to go.

Sounds like someone got the plunger stuck inside and drilled a hole in the bottom to push it out? How about removing the bolt, heat up the tube to soften the lube so the piston moves a little easier and pushing it out from the bottom. I bet pointing it in a safe direction and hitting it with compressed air might do the trick! Then drill and tap the bottom hole for a flush pipe threaded plug?

Me ... I would send it in for repair ...

Bubba done worked his magic and now might be the time to call in the pro's for a proper repair .

Sometimes you just got to let a proper repair be done so you can move on with life .
