The 30-30 bullet was 130 grain hp after it was shot it retained 120 grain weight 17-18bhn 18 grains 4227. Those were cast by john Kirk. The 170 grain Lee in 308 Winchester came out 162 grains 14-15 bhn, 13 grains RED DOT. I absolutely can not wait to try these on deer and hogs. Click image for larger version.

try 10 gr unique with the 130 gr, should get same fps and less recoil & powder. Will work fine on hogs.
    Whatever!

That 130 gr. boolit shoots very well in both my 30/30 lever gun and my 10" barrel Contender with the same Red Dot load.

Your bullets look they'll work if you put 'em in the right place. I took a buck last fall with a PC'd Lyman 311008 moving out at 2200fps. Read about it here... https://castboolits.gunloads.com/sho...008+works+deer

I still contend that with a good sized meplat and adequate velocity, expansion is unnecessary (at least in 30 caliber). Good luck!

For deer I’d suggest softer alloy. I tried 15.4 BH on deer and they sailed right through like FMJs with no blood trails with a long recovery. My boolits had great water test expansion like yours but didn’t expand on thin skinned game. If your lucky enough to hit bone the bone fragments will at least cause some trauma for a quick recovery. I’d tell you to try COWW and pure 50/50. Hogs are a lot tougher so I’m sure your load will work good on them.

If you go down to post 12 on the link below you’ll see my link with my experiences with soft and hard alloy on deer with photos of entry and exit holes

wow, what was the alloy? I have the NOE version of that mold in a two cavity. It has served me well, but you have broken new ground.

Thanks for posting this , I'm thinking on trying the same . I want to use the Lyman 311041 out of COWW with 2% tin and Quinched out of the mold , then temper the noses . This will be in a 30-30 and 308 . Yours look good , they should put some eat on the ground .

Plain old COWW alloy. Water dropped out of the mold, but I don't think it makes a difference. BHN after PCing should be 10 or 11ish.
