Anyone try W872 in the 450 Bushmaster

Don't have any Trailboss but do have some surplus W872 powder. Was thinking subsonic for a 450 Bushmaster bolt rifle.
Has anyone given it a try.

Haven't tried it. I see that it's almost at the bottom of the burn rate chart, if you compare it to 50BMG powders. W872 from what I understand is pulldown powder from 20mm Vulcan rounds. I've heard of duplexing it for the 45-70 Gatling, but nothing for the 450BM. You would probably get alot of unburnt or even hangfires.

It certainly will be subsonic. I think you will not be favorably impressed. Make sure every shot actually leaves the barrel.

I tried WC860, way too slow. Boolit left the barrel, barely, but it didn't cycle the action and unburnt powder was everywhere. I was using large primer brass made from .284 cases and mag pistol primers. I can't imagine 872 would be any better. WC820(s) works very well.

May need to try a duplex load with 4198 as a kicker.
