    Herters Hulls ?

I was just gifted several clay target boxes full of 1X fired Herters Hulls
    These are from a 2 3/4" 1 1/4 oz lead load of #6 shot from Cabela's
These are from shells bought a few years back
I looked and I didn't see these shells on Cabela's web site now
A nice high brass green hull with what looks like a translucent or white plastic base in the hull

Anyone know what hull these are ?

As I would like to reload some hunting loads in them
And if possible some Steel shot loads as I hope to go upland hunting in a area that you need to use Non Toxic loads only

    Thanks
    John

best thing is to cut one in half long ways and compare to the chart for types, that will give you a referance for reloading. I have used these but dont recall what they were equivalent to

I suspect they are Cheddite hulls. Are there a couple of stars on the headstamp? If so, they are probably Cheddites. The good news is Cheddites are well regarded for their durability, and there is plenty of loading data for them. The bad news is they take a primer that is a little bigger in diameter than the standard American 209 size. You will probably need to find some Cheddite 209 or Fiocchi 616 primers.

In 16ga they are Cheddite hulls. Not sure about 12ga but most likely are cheddite as well.

I thought they were cheddites too but primers started falling out. (12 ga) Rio I guess. No problem with 20 ga

I was given some loads to try
    No pressures listed
    So I will go slow
