    Another Winchester 1873

I picked up this old girl the other week from Curdog007. It needs a little work, but it does shoot. But I’m looking for this sight that apparently came on the Carbine Models. The rear sight that’s on it apparently is not the correct sight that I’ve been able to find and this one is also broken. Anyone have any leads or options? Sight I’m looking for is the first one with the ruler in the photo.

There are several options on eBay right now. Search, "1873 Winchester Carbine Sight". Dr. Winchester has always treated me well if you find him. Also ZBcoins has been good.
    Nice rifle!!

I’ve been looking there already, but none that I’m looking for, or period correct for what I have seen. There’s some ladder sights listed that says for 73’ Carbines, but from what I have found, those were on Model 66 and not 73’s. The one I have pictured is what I’ve found came on the 73 Carbines.

That's what I was saying, if what is available doesn't tickle your fancy, find one of those sellers and message them with your specific request.

Winchester also used up old stock as they saw fit. Plus when a carbine was ordered any rear sight could be specified.
But if you want a "catalog model" keep searching.

Also looking again at your carbine you have a 3rd model... the sight you are looking for was on the 66 carbines and first model 73 Carbines....
Look at your serial #. Is it under 7,000 ?
The sight you have has been on that barrel a long time.

how does it shoot with the sight on it. as a lover of old beat up guns I've tried jumping razor wire fences to get "correct" parts for old guns only to find some times that they are not so "right" when trying to use the gun

Each time I would shoot the sight would drop down as it’s broken and will not stay up. Should I try ******?

This is a Third Model. The sight from the 66 and the early 73’s are different than what I’m looking for. But I’m just looking right now. I’ll find the right one, one day.

there is an old gun parts store in Pennsylvania, my memory is going on me, but its called proppers or poppers I believe , and they have lots and lots of old gun parts. might be worth calling them. or there is dixie gun works that might be of help or steer you in the right direction, and there is a guy with a website that reproduces parts for old guns, can't remember his name right now ---jackfirst?
there is also cfnparts and homestead parts, oldarmsofidaho and winchesterbob

Might also consider fixing the original. Could be missing a spring or the cross pin is worn. I fixed a loose carbine sight by drilling to the next size and using a precision gage pin to replace the old one. Worked like a champ.

The flat spring that keeps it up is broken. I’ll let a guy I know look at it and see what can be done. From what I’ve found, this sight was never put on the 3rd Models though. I’m waiting on the Cody Letter to come in now to see if it says anything special about the rifle.
