    Old bullets

My mom's neighbor said he had some old bullets, not really what I expected. The jacketed bullets are clad in silver metal, not the usual copper. The small box he said was a cap box, not sure exactly what is happening on the cover....

The (cap box) is more likely a snuff box. The silver colored bullet jackets are most likely early 1900's cupronickel metal. The fouling from cupronickel was very hard to remove and was discontinued after WW-1 by most manufacturers. There should be some collector interest in the bullets and the box. Check the box closely for any marks as that could tell you when and where the box was made. The box may be pewter, silver or silver plate. If silver it will be hallmarked.

Agree on the bullets, cupronickel and almost "impossible" to get out. The box looks to be European in manufacture. Looks to be lightly tarnished silver. The bullets would be of interest to a bullet collector, but I sure would not shoot them in any rifle I owned.

Elk Hunter nailed it about the bullets being clad in cupro nickle. Big pain to remove the jacket fouling. My 1915 Winchester 1895 saddle ring carbine to many long cleaning sessions yo remove the cupro nickle jacket fouling. Great big lumps on the tops of the lands. Frank

The "International Cartridge Show" is being held here in St. Louis, MO. again this year from April 13th - 16th next to STL airport. If you have ANY kind of questions about your find those are the guys to ask. I spent hours walking through the tables looking at "stuff" and still never saw all of it. Check it out online.
