    2022 Nevada Cast Bullet Shoot

Friends! The 22nd Nevada Cast Bullet Shoot is scheduled for June 3rd, 4th and 5th at the Humboldt County Shooting Park just north of Winnemucca. Please consider this post the invitation for past and new participants to come spend quality time with a group of great folks and do a bunch of shooting!

Competition targets shot during the event fall into two categories, group and score:
Group targets test the caster/ reloader and any shooting position is allowed so long as no rest such as a bipod is attached to the firearm.
Score targets test shooting skills and are shot from an unsupported (no sling) offhand position.

    Open competition events include:
100 yard score—5 shots any sight
100 yard group—5 shots any sight
50 yard score—5 shots iron sights
50 yard group—5 shots iron sights
25 yard pistol score—5 shots iron sight, 10 inch max barrel length
25 yard pistol group—5 shots iron sight, 10 inch max barrel length
25 yard companion gun score—5 shots each iron sight rifle and pistol offhand shooting same ammo
Long range—5 shots iron sight/any non-prone field position on 400 yard plate
Practical rifle—10 shots iron sight offhand in 3 minutes shooting at multiple plates between 100 and 200 yards

Each shooter can make only one official entry per event with a particular gun, but multiple entries are allowed with other firearms. Sharing use of guns is the key here to see if another shooter can do better with your gun!

There are also two ladies only events:
100 yard score—5 shots any sight any position
50 yard group—5 shots any sight any position

We also have at least one group/team shoot. Last year we did a stake shoot, with two teams using handguns, trying to see which team can be the first to cut their stake in half! Very Fun!
We're working on a team rifle event for this year, using water balloons hung from strings, at 50 or more yards downrange.

There will be a kickoff lunch at the Griddle at 1:00 on Friday. Saturday we will start shooting at 8:00 and hold a potluck dinner that evening at the range clubhouse. Sunday we will shoot until mid afternoon, tear down the range targets and head back to our rooms to clean up for a final group dinner at a local restaurant. Each participant is requested to bring two prizes to this dinner to be awarded by random drawing. Typical prizes include surplus bullet molds or reloading gear/supplies. There may also be additional vendor-supplied prizes.

Looking forward to seeing our old friends and making new ones!

If you need help with making lodging arrangements or have questions about anything that we might do to help you come join us, please don't hesitate to ask!!
We were all first timers at one time, too!

Another friendly competition, that saw it's first light last year, and was truly a blast (pun intended), was our military rifle matches. It went something like this:

This is a distillation of what we ended up with last year:
    Military arms match
Separated into two fields - one for semi-auto military arms ( Garand, M14, SKS, AK, AR15, etc...) and one for bolt
action arms ( 1903, SMLE, Mausers, Swedes, 1914s, 1917s, etc...). You can compete in either one, or both!
The "spirit" of the match is for generally original style arms, but I'm not going to disqualify a sporterized SMLE just
because someone cut the stock down. On the other hand, a completely custom rifle, built on a 1917 action won't exactly
    meet the "spirit" descriptor.
To help determine if the arm meets the spirit of the match, it should still be chambered in the cartridge that it was
issued in. So if your 1903A3 has had a new barrel installed, as long as it is still chambered 30-06, that would be fine.
All will use iron sights or peeps - no scopes, red dots, or reflex sights allowed. As usual, only cast leads bullets,
but powder coat is fine. Shooting from an upright unsupported position, no slings, gloves, shooting jackets, tripods or bipods.
4 targets - gongs or steel plates, getting progressively larger as the distance increases, will be arranged from 75 yards
to 150 yards. Each target must be hit twice before engaging the next target, starting at the target nearest the shooter.
Each shooter will be allowed up to 16 rounds to complete the course of fire, and load no more than 8 rounds to begin.
An observer will start the course of fire for the shooter with "Ready on the line" and then "commence firing" and will
start a timer on the "commence firing" command. The observer/score keeper will stop the timer when the 4th target takes
the second hit, or when all 16 rounds have been expended. The shooter with the quickest time/most hits, wins the event.
All of this is, of course, subject to discussion here, and at the Rools meeting.

The "Rools Meeting" is held during our Friday night get together, usually after we have all stuffed our faces!

Something I can't stress enough, is that the theme for these shoots has always been three things (as best my memory serves me)
    1. Be safe
    2. No whining
    3. Have fun!!

Having it be competitive might be great for some, but for most of us, it's all about the people we have come to see as "Family".

Come out, have fun, and join the family.

To all of those who may be thinking about joining in the fun, this 2-1/2 day event (including meals and socials) is as about as much fun as you should be allowed to have. The food is excellent whether it is the pot luck at the clubhouse or in the restaurants in town. Bring sunscreen or a long sleeve shirt and good broad brimmed hat because the range is in the desert at an elevation of 5,000 feet. Due to the price of gas, I will be camping a couple days before the vent and staying in my favorite motel just during the event to make up the difference but the good times are well worth it. The event will leave you smiling for the rest of the year.

Not much to add to what is above-- but this is a great event-- lots of fun-- and a huge opportunity to try different firearms. Many of us bring out a lot of firearms and are very willing to let shooters try them out.

The banquet locations are set. The Friday night Roolz committee get together is at the Martin Hotel, one of the finest Basque Restaurants I have ever enjoyed. The Sunday evening awards banquet is at Queso's, the wonderful Mexican restaurant where last years awards banquet was held.

Shooters and Friends-- For the Friday night get-together at the Martin Hotel we will be in their banquet room and we need to give the hotel a rough count of attendance five days in advance. So-- All interested are welcome-- but a PM to me to let me know you plan to attend will be very welcome. Dinner is tentatively at 6:00 pm.

    Thanks

Rained each morning, but miraculously stopped just about the time we got everything set up. A little downpour late this afternoon-- but otherwise great! Lots of good shooting.
