I just got 2000 Cheddites for $75/1000 plus shipping and Hazmat from Brownell's.

Looking for Green Dot or Titegroup powder. an 8lb jug will get you a BPM LnL Hand Press with Case.

Well, I bit the bullet and got primers. If my math is correct, I’m reloading shells for $6.75 per box. The increase in the primer cost increases my weekly cost by less than $3. Money well spent to have time shooting with kiddo.

Now the issue is powder. Why is this and don't say it's because of all the new shooters or the factories using it to load factory ammo. There isn't any significant quantity of Factory Loaded Shot Shells on anyone's shelves either, and things like 9mm and .223 is all going to the Govt..

I think DHS is buying everything and the manufacturers are allowing them to place massive orders at the expense of the public. DHS will stock pile the stuff until they think it shelfs out and then scrap it to recyclers who will break everything down and recycle the components. Years from now.

I know something is fishy because even in the last few govt induced shortages it was never this bad.

Lets think about this, who makes most all of the primers made in the US? Who stands to lose the most if they can't sell factory loaded shotgun shells from 25 to 50% more than a year ago because of people reloading their own? Now that Remington is owned by the same company that owns Federal, Estate, & CCI, you can see that only Winchester is left as a domestic producer of reloading primers. Cheddite primers are made in France by an Italian company so that is why you see them from time to time but they have no competion from US made sources so their prices are double to triple right now. Trap, skeet, and sporting clays season is in full swing now and these companies are choking the life out of the goose that lays their golden eggs for some short term gain. When did you last see Alliant powder for shotgun loading in stock? Alliant is not loyal to American reloaders and only some shotgun powder from Hodgdon is available on a very limited basis at double the usual price. Alliant is owned by the same company that owns Federal, CCI, and Estate so you know how that goes.

Never used Cheddite primers. Any difference from our major manufacturers ( besides availability).

I like and use Winchester 209 primers as they always seem to work well no matter what the temperature is or the type of powder. Now that I cannot get WWAA209 primers I bought 5000 Cheddites. I have many friends that use them and like them. If you look at the loading manuals they seem to be on par with the Winchester 209's as far as power level. At one time in the past they measured a little larger in diameter so that if you loaded a shell with them and wanted to go back to a American primer then it may or may not fall out of the primer hole due to the Cheddite swaging the primer pocket larger. However the latest cheddite primers are much closer to the American primer size and that problem is no more. The big difference is that you can get Cheddite primers and you cannot get American made primers.

I’m using the Cheddite primers in a Win AA-HS hull and they seem to fit fine. I don’t think I’ll get a chance to use a different primer before I use the life out of the hulls I have.

I've been buying primers whenever I could find them at somewhat near reasonable prices. I've gotten a small car load at $59.99/K plus tax. I've also grabbed all the wads I could get at reasonable prices too. Powder, I've got plenty of.... Had to make shot today, but that is no biggie. I've got about 1500 pounds stocked away in the garage since I cast for everything plus reload shot shells too.

I was at Shyda’s in Labannon PA on 6/1/22 and they had plenty NobelSport 209 primers . BUT they are sold in blocks of 10k for $500 . That’s $50 for 1,000 . Lotta folks I know shoot them now . I got 20 bags of shot but balked on the primers , I would like to have tried 1,000 to see how I liked them before going in whole hog . Maybe when I come to PA in august I’ll get some and of course by then the price will be a good bit higher .

The Nobel primers are unwrapped in trays of 1,000, in cases of 10 trays. I was at Shyda’s and found out about them. Another local dealer was selling shrink wrapped Nobel trays for $59/1000.
From what I can find online they are more oversized than Cheddite used to be and inconsistent in below freezing temperatures. Plus I’d need to move them to 100 round trays or put them in my press individually.

I have enough Cheddites that I don’t need to deal with all that.
