I have a couple of these. The anvils are different on each, but both work equally well. I wouldn't want to ever be without it. I built a wood base that I can stand them in.

Am I thinking the wrong way or would a good set of calipers not be as good? You know, A more versatile tool? Nice tool buy the way!

From the title, I thought maybe Michelle had moved to the west coast. Sorry.

These are very much more handy for what they work for than a caliper. I lock it then set it in the base right next to my case trimmer or press and can just slip what I am measuring right through on the way to the next step hopper. The caliper is too fiddly and I am always concerned about knocking it off the bench or dropping it on the floor when I am in production mode. You can also put it in a Mitutoyo caliper holder base, which I have too, but find my base to be more familiar because I use it so often.

Herters used to offer a bench micrometer for similar use, only the gap was vertical. Mine came to me with only one of three original anvils, so I can only set it up for 0-1”(?) I have 1-6” Starrett mics, but I can see where the bench mic would be like having a third hand at times. Somebody makes a clamp and base for holding a standard mic, but why not buy a complete tool? “Big toys for big boys…”
