how many have loaded the 8mm-06 and what is the best dies. I am going to have a barrel put on a mauser and thought would have sized for the 8mm-06 because I have so much 06 brass

Let me check around, I MAY have an 8mm-06 set of dies here someplace. Don't getcher hopes up though, this stuff has been moved a dozen times in the past few years and I may have lost them. IIRC these were CH dies.
This is a good cartridge that became popular but now seems to have decreased to a small following. I have a barreled action and dies but have yet to get the reamer or stock for it. Just another project waiting on the "to-do" list to be finished. I look forward to your progress.

BTW, My die sets are RCBS and appear to be the same quailty as all other RCBS die sets.

I know its a odd ball but so is the owner. I had a win 70 and it was too far gone to get a 8mm so it went to 338-06. A very good shooter. I have a old mauser that is getting a good barrel and have alot of the worked up 338-06 so I can resize for the 8mm. I guess I will need to paint the heads. Those will be a easy mix up with military head stamps
My die set is RCBS, and as stated it is typical quality. I've had it for about 30 years.

Shotman,
The 8mm-06 is a real sleeper. A good friend hunted with one for many years here in Montana. I helped him develop some of his loads. Our best load was the 200gr Nosler Partition at nearly 2700fps. One shot kills on Elk were common. RCBS, Redding and probably LEE on special order. CH and others made dies that one might find used. I have a set of 8mm-06 Ackley Improved dies in my die cabinet for use in my friends rifle as he was originally going to use the Improved version. However, the standard version with the 200gr Nosler proved so effective he decided not to have the rifle rechambered.
A great cartridge too often overlooked.

thanks for help I will stay with the standard. The Ackley is ok but those sharp bottle necks seem to have a short case life.
Ok one more question.-- Can I just buy a neck sizing die. I would only be useing the one gun. The 338-06 I only use a neck sizer now. If I need a FL I can use the 06 die.

Iam sorry I ment to say the 338-06 I have 2 sets of them. That would take base back if needed and then the 8mm-06 would neck size
If you are going to size brass from another rifle up you will need a standard die, at least for that operation. Once you have fired the brass in the 8mm-06 a neck only die is all you need. I know of no source for properly stamped 8x63 brass.

I bought a sporterized CZ that I would guess was done in the 60's. It has some Weatherby shaping done to it. Several olks that saw it at ffirst glance thought it was a weatherby. I bought this one for a song at a small local shop. They were all scared of it as the ammo that came with it would not chamber.
I bought it and brought it home and did a chamber cast. All was well and it was a case/handload issue. Brass was milsurp and looked terrible. I pulled everything and tossed the cases. BTW, I ended up paying more for the RCBS dies than I did the rifle, lol.
I have not shot any jacketed through it. I have shot a few CB's. Not enough to really ring it out, as it is not drilled and tapped for a scope, Irons only. It is striking low, so I do need to bump it up quite a bit. 323470 I believe is the lyman I have.
I had this about 2 years and got to talking to a local gent and did find out some of the history of this rifle. I didn't let on that I had purchased it from the shop. Bad subject with him.
He claimed it to be the poor mans 338 in the day, even though it was a tad smaller. He did bring out his 8mm-06. It was a close twin to the one I had, but was on a different action, a Husquavarna if I recall correctly.

No -1 you are No1 pm sent that will work great
Quality cartridge makes proper headstamped cases and midway has stocked them from time to time- I had a 98 chambered to 8mm-06 many years ago and just now got around to stocking it and will be loading for it in a week or two!!
Rick,
I got the dies out and sent you a e-mail.
