unfired 22 colt new frontier buntline

I traded for this new frontier colt buntline with box and papers, recently. It came out of an estate.
I had wanted one of these for a long time. Things came together.
Box looks bad but pistol was unfired. All the colt boxes for 22s I see look bad.
    It was made in 1985.
    Today was a nice day.
I put a box of CCI Blazer, Remington subsonic and Eley subsonic through it.
it shot point of aim for me from the start.

    It has now been fired.

    I loved it.

I’ve been looking for a frontier scout for years that doesn’t cost 8 million dollars. NICE pistol!

Good lookin' pistola there...I've got the 6" model...it's good with .22 Lr: Mini-Mags, Winchester 40 gr HP's, and Federal Auto-Max 40's. Groups from a rest run 2" or better at 25 yds, rested.

I've got the Magnum cylinder for it as well; groups with Max-Mags are just a bit better than the best of the .22 LR groups.

Mine was a used gun, and in almost new condition but without the box and papers...no big loss there as I'm a shooter, primarily. The trigger is right at 3 lbs...pretty darned good for an out of the box revolver that's not a Smith.

They're pretty revolvers with the case hardening on the frame and good bluing. Hope you enjoy yours as much as I do mine. Best regards, Rod......Pic if the NF and the 2nd of it in a holster I made up.

That is a nice look looking pistol and holster. Mine is all blue and has the flat ended barrel which is 22lr only.

I found a good deal on colt frontier scout a few years ago which can use dual cylinders. It came with the 22 lr cylinder. I bought a 22 wmr cylinder for it.
    Thanks

Yet another of the "I wish I still had that" guns. The only thing I didn't care for was the goofy safety.

That gun (and the Second Model Woodsman I had at the time) would shoot better groups on paper at twenty five yards than the 16" Rossi pump I also had.

    Way cool.
You have earned the right to gloat.

The only firearms stuff I've ever seen at an estate sale was old partial cans of powder, and some cheap brand guns
priced at about triple retail of the same ones you see listed new.

    .

    Welcome to the club !

I finally ran across this Frontier Scout in a very small LGS, and jumped on it in a New York Minute.

If you want to really want to sweeten up the balance those Pistoloa's pull the grips off and put some lead bullets in there and they balance much better. If I REMEMBER right 2 -45 and 1 - 38 cal.

The safety takes some getting used to. You have to push it in to load and to unload it.
Except for that goofy safety it shoots great.

I like that scout in the presentation box.

A few years ago I saw a colt duo tone colt 22 in a small gun show out in the state. I had not heard of the duo tone nor had the guy selling it. I thought someone had scraped the black off. It was cheap as I look back but did not seem so then and I passed. Oh well that will never happen again. I will never find one like that for sale again and If I did I would buy it.
    Thanks

No "Safety" on my New Frontier...when you swing out the ejection gate, it looks just like any other Colt SAA or Ruger SA. Best regards, Rod

No photos, but no safety on mine either. Adjustable sights, purchased about 1974, both cylinders too.

Mine is a 1985 which is about the last year they made them on a regular basis as I understand.
It is a GS rather than a G series. S for safety I guess.

Colt made an awful lot of commemorative .22 single actions, maybe more than Winchester did Model 94's. You just don't hear about them much. The hardware store in the town I grew up in had several in the display case, most of them were pretty gaudy as I remember them.

The safety was on the last or maybe last two series of .22's. As stated by me and verified by Hawkeye, it is goofy. The guns themselves are accurate shooters though. Mine would outshoot any .22 caliber Single Six I ever saw, and if I ever get my mitts on another, the Single Six is gone.

Congrats!!! Mine is a Colt Frontier Scout .22/.22wmr with a 4 5/8” barrel s/n 23xxxF which was made in 1968. It came with box, instruction sheet, and the wmr cylinder. I have never shot this latter cylinder as I have a hunch it was not the one which came with the revolver.
I do envy you having the Buntline version! Best wishes with it!

    GeorgerKahn,
I bought a 22 wmr factory cylinder from ebay a few years ago.
It fit my colt frontier scout perfectly.
The scout had the rounded muzzle.
Colt made these cylinders very uniformly from what I have read and have experienced on my scout.

For Ruger single sixes you may have to search to find one that just fits.
They do not always fit from one pistol to another as have experienced with the ones I have tried to get 22 wmr cylinders for.
    Thanks

When I was working, many years ago a women told me she had a .22 pistol she wanted to sell. I told her to bring it in and the next day she did. My told my friend about it and the next day he got to work early and bought the pistol for $20. It was missing both cylinders and had a lot of rust. My friend didn't want the pistol, but he did want me to make him a shoulder holster for a Thompson Contender. I made him the holster for the pistol. I then went to a gun shop a nice lady ordered me a .22LR cylinder for $25. I also bought a new barrel but never changed it. I polished all the rust the off the gun and made the holster shown with it. My Granddaughter fell in love with it, so I gave it to her.

If your gun has an "F" in the SN, there's a good chance it was issued with both cylinders.

These were designed to be dual cylinder revolvers.

If your gun is in the correct serial number range (number greater than 235000F), the 2nd cylinder is likely factory installed - but, unlike Ruger's, most Colt Scout cylinders are interchangeable.

AFAIK, the only way to determine if it actually was shipped with both cylinders is to get an factory historical letter from the Colt Archive Department.
