    Henry Big Boy 45 questions

Thinking about getting one. Do they feed semi wad cutters, and are there any accuracy issues?

I have a Henry BBS, 45 colt, can't answer about the how it feeds SWC bullets. I use Lee 452-200-RF and the 255-RF cast bullets. As far as accuracy, I can't complain. I've killed woodchucks at 65 yrs with the 200-RF.

I use coated 300 grain truncated cone flat points (and 250 grain JHPs) in .45C Henry. I don't recall ever shooting any semi-wadcutters in it. My general experience with semi-wadcutters in Henry rifles (.357M and .44M) is that they do feed but sometimes with a bit of a "hitch" in the lever throw. YMMV. Mine's very accurate with the 250 grain jacketed and 300 grain hardcast. I tried 200 grain coated RNFPs from Missouri Bullet, but they were not very accurate in this gun, nor any other that I shot them in, so take that for what it's worth (not much). Possibly I just never found the velocity sweet spot for them.

I have a Henry BB steel in 45 Colt and have shot cast bollits from 200 gr. to 300 + grains and with a 4 x scope got groups just under 2” at 100 yards. They were mostly SWC designs and feed good. I have shot a few groups with J bullets close to 1” but never really put the effort in load development to do any better. I mainly bought it because it had 1- 16 twist and the 44 mag had 1- 38 so I wanted to play with some heavy boolits but just haven’t taken the time to really get to know the Henry like I should. I have no complaints about it though as it does all things it should well.
