    Shotgun wood

I run across several nice old rabbit eared shotguns every year but a lot have bad stocks. Is there any place that you can get finished stocks that don't cost more than the gun? Just last week I was offered a Montgomery Ward SxS hammered that was 80% but the stock had a big chip gone where the metal and wood meet. Most new wood I have found cost more than what I could have bought the gun for.

This is in Ky but take a look. http://www.hoosiergunworks.com/

They list a lot of parts, just be sure to look at the existing quantity numbers.
Most of the tanks are gone and the windows don't rattle anymore. I won't be able to sleep now.

You might dig around and find someone with a stock duplicator machine.
They can put your old one on one side and a blank on the other.
A router or something follows along a guide on the left/original one onto cutting the blank to make you new one.

You might could get one pretty reasonable if they sent it back unfinished.
Another thing: Compared to a pine 2 x6 at Home Depot-- just the hardwood blanks can be rather expensive too.

OK People. Enough of this idle chit-chat.

I have seen some nicely done splice in type repairs over the years. With a careful selection of replacement wood, and an eye for detail, missing wood can be replaced so well that it can be hard to notice!
