now that is a biggie!
I've looked for years for an 1865 Springfield but so far no luck. That means I haven't had to make any 58 rimfire cases. I have made 577 Snider brass from 24 gauge shotshells. Given the thin head/rim area of the CBC cases, made in Brazil, I would avoid them for rimfire cases. If I had to use the CBC cases I would make a liner/reinforcement piece for inside the head area sealed with loctite. I would be more inclined to make them from brass rod.
Just my $0.02 worth and probably over priced.
BIG OR SMALL I LIKE THEM ALL, 577 TO 22 HORNET.
I printed out a great explanation from "T man" on this forum from years ago. It was a quite successful venture, using either turned cases or 28ga brass and minie balls. I don't know how to search by user name here though.

I have made quite a few different obsolete, large bore rimfire cases from .25 to .50 cal, and also load a shoot a .58 Roberts rolling block. While I've not combined those two activities to make .58 rimfire, it would not be hard. You definitely need a solid head case to start with. My .58 cases came from Rocky Mountain cartridge. Starting with cases like these, it would be a simple matter of converting them to rimfire using a .22 nail gun blank as a primer. I would NOT use .22 starter pistol blank as a primer for these large bore, heavy firing pin applications. The starter pistol blanks are thinner and tend to puncture. The nail gun blanks are made of heavier brass. They can be emptied and used, or in large bore cases - they mildest nail gun blanks can be used as-is, sort of a duplex load. I have a two part youtube video series on my process to do this. The videos show me making a .44 rimfire case, but the basic process is the same for any case. The photos below are of a converted .56-50 and a .58 Roberts.

Thank you ndnchf !
I had not considered the nail gun .22's. Most likely will be using Mec-Tec 28 gauge brass. Should hold up well to 60 grains 2F Goex.
That 58 Roberts is a fine looking hunk of brass.

I hope those cases work for you. I look forward to seeing your progress. In this video I'm shooting my .56-50 split breech carbine. I discuss the starter pistol blank issue.
