    35 caliber - 300 grain cast

I came across a pretty large supply of these in my boolit supply recently. They're sized to 0.359" and lubed. Gas check ready but no gas check.
What was I thinking when I bought these!!??
    35 calibers include:
    38 Special
    357 Magnum
    351 WSL
    35 WSL
    35 WCF
    35/30
    9mm Luger

Gotta say, I've been crunching my brain when I came across these.
Anyone use them for the calibers listed above??

Which one has a 1:14" or faster twist of rifling?

Those would fit right in my custom 35-338 WM, or a 358 Norma.
Don't want no one to git hurt, but if you're gonna have a wreck, I wanna watch.

    No I don't!
But I suspect that the 35-338 could be a culprit. I sold it a few years ago.

    No!!! Outpost nailed it!!!
I was trying to get a heavy bullet going out of a 35 WCF!!!! Just found my proposed load data for it.
    They're 1:12"
Perhaps need to revisit that venture!!
    Thank you

You were thinking ... " One day I'm going to get a 35 Remington lever action ...or maybe a 358 Winchester bolt action and these will come in handy ! "
But in the fog of time and old age forgot all about it .
I got a bunch of stuff like that !

I've never loaded the caliber, but 35 Winchester looks like a perfect fit. 1:12 twist, huge case, .358" bullet, moderate pressure. A 300 gr bullet i'd guess would be topped out around 2100 fps.

I think its a sign you need to get 358 win dies. once you have those then you pretty much have to buy a rifle in 358. Brass will work instead of dies but it may take a little longer

I'm gonna bet it will do best with one of the long necked 35's. That is a lot of bullet. A 200 grain RCBS fits the 35 Remington well. Usually no bullet below the neck and short enough overall length to still cycle in actions made for the 35. Don't know where you could put much more weight and work as it should.

Can you post pics of the bullets? Do you know what mold they are from?

Nope, no clue on what mould they are from!!
I am currently loading them into some 35 WCF cases though! Wishing they were gas checked so I could find out what they could really do (as megasupermagnum mentioned)

You could shoot those subsonic from a 357mag if your gun has a longer throat.

I had a 100 of those, think I got them from Midway. I cleaned the lube from them & powdercoated & gas checked them. They shot great out of my 35 Whelen. I would like to get more of them unlubed

Agreed the 35 Winchester is your best choice. 2100 would be a poke!!

Are you gonna GC them? IMHO if ya plan on top velocities your looking for problems.

I have recently bought a Accurate 36-310 Mold and really Enjoying it in my Norma Mag. Its far too Much bullet for the smaller 35's.

Some 1:16 can stabilize this at super velocities. (You can check for yourself with on line calculators. Everyones a twist expert these days. NOT doubting Ed's expertise!! ) But I agree 1:14 + is better. I shoot 280g in my Legend bolt @ subsonic and they are marginally stabile. Kick them up to 1250/1300 fps and they shoot perfectly as far as I have checked. (Of coarse weight is immaterial. Length is defining factor for twist/stability.)

Mine are powder coated and plain base. My Norma does produce some leading @ 2100 fps. BUT its a JES rebore and can still be rough. My Whelen @ 1800 + saw zero. (Shillen polished bbl) Alloy was quenched COWW, so 18 bhn ish.

I had an '80's vintage 1895 redone in 35 WCF to be able to step up the performance of the cartridge without risking one of my originals. I am going to gas check them to fully explore this experiment. The smith that did the work hadn't heard of this cartridge before, but was intrigued enough to build his own on a Ruger (#1 I think....). He enjoys pushing the envelope a bit has 300gr copper bullets going stupid speeds. His energy is approaching 378 Weatherby. I have no desire for that, just want a big bullet going a moderate velocity.
