    Rem 581 Magazines

Many years ago my son in law had a 581 and was able to purchase after market steel mags to replace the crappy plastic mags that came with the rifle. Have a 581 on the way for my grandson and would like to pick up a couple for him. Can't seem to find them, not sure if they are no longer in production or I'm just not searching the right places. Can anyone help?

Trekker Manufacturing( https://trekkermfg.com/) makes 3D nylon ones, and John Reed in Tennessee( jreedtn81@gmail.com) makes the metal ones.

I have a 5 shot and a 10 shot "crappy" plastic magazine for my 581 and never had an issue.

Yes, I also still have the original plastic mags that I got with my 581 about 50 years ago and they function perfectly.

We had two for rifle, one worked okay, the other would pop rounds out of the mag. Just not impressed by either mag as my only experience was with the steel mags in my 513. Not sure if my experience with the 581 mags was typical or just got a lemon, but it permanently soured me of the plastic mags.

UPDATE: Rifle came in with the factory mag, but IIRC the ones we had years ago were held together by the little U shaped spring. This one has the spring but the mag looks like it is glued or fused along the seams. Haven't tried it yet for feeding but it seem to load okay.

Not sure if that little u shaped spring actually hold it together. If I remember correctly I had a mag that lost it and it still was together and worked. I think it was just at the feed ramp to protect the plastic from wear but I don’t have one in front of me now.
