    HP Shoulder screw source

Looking to hollow point a few molds and I'm having a hard time finding affordable shoulder screws small enough for the job. I've checked on Amazon, Bolt Depot and Grainger. (I must be missing them).

Looking in the range of 3/32-1/8-5/32 shoulder length. 6-48, 6-32, 8-32 or 10-32 threads.

I have one sample mold, it's a Lyman 358430, the screw is 6-48 thread, 3/16 shoulder Dia and .107 shoulder length.

I would appreciate any sources that have the screws and any recommended sizes from HP molds you may own.

sounds like you need a lathe and perhaps some taps & dies. Another online acquaintance of mine who does machinery repairs tells me he single-points threads on stuff he's working on to about the 80% range, then finishes with appropriate taps or dies. Gives very smooth and accurate threads. He does stuff from over an inch on down to tiny.

    HTH!

Yeah, I'd rather buy screws. I can do it. I have done it for stuff like 1/2-27, .630-36, down to 10-32.
I have looked again at Grainger and have found 10 screws for $22 (plus shipping).

    Try these people:

    Bolt Depot

I have order several items from them. Decent prices and fast delivery.

    Hope this helps.

Got lots of them in lots of sizes. I actually prefer to buy from Grainger since they have a branch local to me, but McMaster-Carr often has stuff they don't. And sometimes vise versa.

I did find some on Ebay, last bag from that seller. 10 screws for $10.65 delivered.

Can you tell me the PN that you went with from McMaster?

I needed some small shoulder screws for a NEI nose pour mold I had. Got them from McMaster-Carr.

    I aways used "thumb screws"
    https://www.mcmaster.com/screws/head...ad-type~thumb/

Amazon ebay granger all sell them.

Or you can simply make your own out of round stock if you have the tooling
