I don't own a Micro Groove Marlin but in a Winchester it's hard to beat a 150 -180 grain FN lead bullet and a dose of IMR 3031.

I have both Micro-Groove Marlins and Winchesters. Most MicroGroove barrels perform best with a .311-.312 bullet with enlarged forepart of .303" plus. Accurate 31-155D plain base and 31-171H gas check are correct. Will also work in Winchester rifles, while lever may close a bit hard due to nose engraving in origin of rifling. A "half-charge" of common extruded tubular rifle powders such as 3031, 4895, 4064, RL15 or Varget are correct with plainbased bullets. Or 15 grains of 4227 with plainbased and 20 grains for full charge with GC 150-175 grain cast.

This mold/boolit works very well in my Glenfield 30-30, #2 alloy sized to .310 and tumble lubed with 45/45/10. It is a gas checked design and that allows you to push the velocity up if you want. You can shoot it without checks too with tight group or bullseye.

At 1700 fps. over 15 grains of 2400 it is mild to shoot and very accurate

I've never had much luck with the really fast powders in .30 WCF, in either Marlins or Winchesters. The fastest one I have good success with is the dearly departed 4759. Reloder 7 and 4198 seem to be the sweet spot for boolits in this cartridge.
Currently casting and loading: .32 Auto, .380 Auto, .38 Special, 9X19, .357 Magnum, .257 Roberts, 6.5 Creedmoor, .30 WCF, .308 WCF, .45-70.
Ed Harris did an excellent article in the Fouling Shot some years back on the .30-30. It listed different categories of loads. I'm not sure which issue it was printed in but it had a lot of useful information.

Anybody ever try IMR 4064 in the .30-30 with a 170 grain cast? My j-word loads do great with it, and I have plenty of it.

This was fun, 145gr PB PC 9.5gr Unique @ 50 yds from 30/30 Marlin. Just plinking but it is a decent load, ~1500 fps. 231 or or similar fast pistol powder should work well. 4 shots, others were a different gun.
