Greetings: LAGS has asked me to post some of his photos on converting a standard Mauser floor plate into a hinged floor plate. I don't know if the captions will upload, but these photos are numbered 1 through 5 from left to right. After I get all 11 pictures posted LAGS will describe what he's done to make this type of conversion. The next six photos are coming up in my next post.

    Thank you 405grain.
These are pictures of how I convert a Mauser magazine to have a hinged Floor plate.
You can do it at home with simple common tools.
You will need some files , a drill press , propane or Mapp gas touch , a hack saw , plus a vise.
The hinge is made out of a short section of 5/16 steel , soldered to a modified floor plate.
You have to file off the front lip of the floor plate and file in a notch to sit the hinge block in.
Then the hinge block can be filed to the shape needed.
The Rear tab on the floor plate must also be removed.
You also have to cut a notch in the front of the magazine box for the hinge block.
The Catch is made in two prices made by hand.
They mimic the latches used on custom Mausers made back in the '30s.
Take a look at the pictures and see what questions that you have.
There are lots of fine details , that I can kind of walk you thru if needed.

+1 That's the way I've done them - looks like you thinned & tapered the military trigger guard, too...…

    Yes,
I sculpted or shaped the guard to look more like a Sabre guard.
I removed the stamped in numbers on the floor plate by pounding them out from the inside of the floor plate , then polishing them out.
The makes it plain so if you want , you can have the floor plate engraved.

I wondered how you did that!
    Thanks for sharing!

I will get pictures of a Jig that I made , to hold the trigger guard while working on the Hinged Floor plate or Shaping the trigger guard.
The shaping of the trigger guard is mostly done with a Chainsaw or Rat tail File.
The chainsaw file works better because it is straight and finer.
The Jig is used to hold the parts in place to make it easier to drill the hinge pivot pin hole.

Sorry for not getting back sooner. I'm going shooting tomorrow and I was out in the garage casting up a pile of 230 grain round nose boolits for my 45 acp. Here are some additional photos that LAGS has asked me to post.

Those latest pictures are of a Jig I built to hold the bottom metal while you do things like drill out the slot for the new hinge tab ( before you file it square ) and drill the hole square for the new hinge pin.
I also use this Job to hold the bottom metal while you sculpt or reshape the trigger guard.
It is made out of a piece of wood 1x3 , two short sections of dowel , two blind T Nuts , and two 1/4 - 20 screws.
It can be clamped in a vice either flat , or on its side.
Great for holding it in a drill press vise.

    Thank you 405 grain.
Those are of a Mauser 98 that I rebarreled to a 30-06 on a custom stock that I built.

I'd love to have that on my new 358 Win Mauser. Great job!

The Hinged Floor plate is easy to build.
If you are concerned about your skills, just buy a spare trigger guard and floor plate to try out making one.
