Sporter Style Stock Suggestions for the SKS

Looking for a replacement stock for my "poor-boy" pig rifle. I do not want a tactical stock. It must accept the stock, 10 round magazine. Be of one piece, wood, wood laminate or synthetic (if not a lightweight *** from recycled milk bottles). Have a 13"-14" length of pull, cheek piece high enough for scope use (don't care about being able to see the open sights), deleted provision for the bayonet and not have a pistol grip. Related to leaving out the cut-out for the bayonet is a fore end that would allow for the addition of barrel load screw or shim.

I have probably looked at more than a dozen stocks, many are not currently available. There also seems to be an almost universal disease of a short LOP.

I'd cap cost at around $200.

After being told Choate was no more I ignored search results for them. Well, Brownell's has a polymer Choate sporter stock in stock. At least I was allowed to order it.

Here's mine-- but it's too nice to take busting through the bushes looking for hogs! It was a semi-inlet from the old Great American Gunstock Co. (the original company that burned down) and worked up into a pretty nice stock. I think you and I are/were thinking a lot alike about what was desirable for an SKS sporter. I'm familiar with the stock you ordered, and think it will serve your purposes better than a wooden stock.

    Years ago,
I could not find a Sporter stock for my SKS.
    So , I took a military stock.
Filed a flat the length of the bottom of the stock from the trigger to the butt plate.
Then laminated wood to the bottom of the stock.
I then cut the stock into a Monte Carlo shape.
I also did a flat area on the top of the butt stock and built up the cheek piece and reshaped it to fit what I like.
This actually started out as a "Pattern " to be used on a stock duplicator.
But , the guy that was letting me use his duplicator , moved out of state.
So , I just finished out the stock , and shot it for almost 10 years before selling the rifle.
I also did the same operation on Mosin Nagants stocks.
I still have and shoot the Pattern Stocks on two of my Mosins.
I also made a pattern out of a Yugo 24/47 military stock.
I built it up and shaped it into a Tactical / Sniper stock for Long Range shooting in .308 with a heavy barrel.

ATI made a few stocks for the MN's, SKS's and Mausers some time ago. Center Fire Systems carried them.

    Try this one. https://centerfiresystems.com/produc...product_detail

What about securing a nice sound original stock and epoxying/screwing blocks to cheek and butt and fit/finish to you. Paint up when done and go bust piggy!

The current stock is a pristine original with a screw-on, hard plastic butt stock extension and still too short. The action has been bedded in it and a rear action hold down screw added, neither mod can be seen from the outside. To date I have not been able to concoct a front barrel load screw or shim point - which I'd like to try to attempt to reduce vertical stringing. Rather than carve it up I'd prefer to stick it in a corner and leave it as is.

When I checked them a while back Ramlines SKS sporter looked to have been discontinued.

Just try to find yourself a Used Stock Cheap.
There are lots out there because people replaced there stocks with plastic or tactical stocks.
In fact I still have one in my closet.
You don't need to be concerned with the outside condition.
You are going to modify it anyway.
But it sounds like what you want is going to have to be Totally Custom anyway to fit your needs.
A modified stock can then be sent to a stock producer and be Duplicated out of what wood you want or can afford.

I put a ramline on mine and I was satisfied with it. Then one day i thought I needed it to be more accurate, I got one of the dust cover scope mounts and a scope. It was less accurate with the scope than before. I tried several scopes and different ammos. Found out later that the dust cover scope mounts are reported to move when you shoot them, factory sights are on the barrel. I gave up but I wish you Good luck!!!

I made a scope mount that mounts on the left side of the receiver.
It is nothing more than a bent 1/8" piece of steel plate.
The scope rail is from a Marlin 336
I mounted a spacer to the receiver , and then the steel plate attaches to the spacer.
I had one mounted to the spacer with thumb turn knobs so I could remove it.
It shot good with a variety of scopes.
And was high enough that you could still use the iron sights.
I am sorry but I can't post pictures on the site.
I still have one of the rifles , but don't shoot it very often.
