Mold Choice For .35 Remington HP

Have you created a .35 Remington hollow point load for hunting?
Which mold design did you settle on?
How did it work out?

While I don't have a 35 remington, I do have a 358 winchester. In my research for molds, a common theme in 35 caliber molds was the RCBS 200 grain, gas checked mold or a copy of it. I have the NOE version, and two MP versions of the same/similar bullet. Based upon my search, i think youd be pleased with the RCBS or a clone with HP, cup point or FP options.

The RCBS and clones typically weigh 215-220 with a hunting alloy and are know to be accurate. Good, solid bullet design.

What BK7 said. I have the RCBS, 35-200 mold I use in a couple different 9 X 57's and a 9 X 71 Peterlongo. I would avoid the hollow point altogether.

Honestly could never afford a hollow point mould. If I wanted a HP I would Load up the bullet in my jig and drill it. I have done so for my 35 Rem but found it was not needed.

I am a fan of the 200g RF GC clone.

I'd expect someone to mention the old grandaddy of .35 Remington molds #358315 as an excellent candidate for sprucing up.

There's a SAECO #352 in the fun box that I'm considering having blunted and hollow pointed. Just haven't gotten around to checking the diameter of the bore riding portion yet for fit.

I have never needed a HP in my 35s when using a 200 FP. It hits so hard, does not stop on a deer, bear or hog. I am pushing 2,600 fps with plain base PCed 200g bullets with 1680 in my 358 MGP ARs. The MGP is a necked up 6.8 SPC. Never seen a hog, bear or deer walk off from a shot behind the shoulder with this load.
I prefer the S&B process with a nose down bake, in a 1/4” hardware cloth box, turned upside down. Sized to groove diameter after PC, using case lube. No GC.

My choice is a NOE 360-197

Its a dandy 35 Rem mold with a cup point in WW!!

I've got more 35 cal molds than I'll probably ever use., but for more than 3 decades my go to mold for 35 rem is rcbs 35-200. but I have real sweet mold that Miha made probably 6 or 7 years ago that was a group buy its a gas checked 35 cal 220 grain with a hollow point options included. the crazy thing isa I have yet to even heat it up but its one that will probably work well

I have that same mold and his 200 as well. I think both are still unused in the box.

I would love to have that 200!!! I have bee waiting over a year to it come available !!!!

I am borrowing a 220 & YES its a good one! Just a bit "pointy" for tube mag use.

I was also allowed to borrow a 200 version. Thata how I know I like it so much!! Nearly identical to the RCBS/ LEE/NOE 200-fp molds only with MP's excellent hp design. My 350 Legend & Maxi's LOVE IT TOO!!

I settled on an RCBS 35-200-FN for use in my rebarreled M91 Mauser with a 26" Shilen barrel. For hunting I cast them of 97/1.5/1.5 alloy and let them AC for 2 weeks before doing anything with them. Then they are sized and GC'd in a .360 H&I die in a 450 lubrasizer. That size just barely touches the bullet as they drop at .3595+. I have been loading them over 37 gr IMR4895 which pushes them at 2140 fps +/-. I HP the bullets 3/16" deep with a Forster 1/8" HP tool after loading. To maintain the best accuracy, I clean the barrel every 7 or 8 shots. As such the load maintains 2 moa or less to 200 yards.

For practice I use a COWW +2% alloy and don't HP them.

How good does it work?

Inside rib cage; exit, entrance and outside entrance.

Buck was 90 +/- yards away. At the shot he hunched and staggered about 10 - 15 yards sideways and went down.



For plinking and small game i load a 359 sized Lee 356-120-TC over 6 gr of bullets for 1150 fps and excellent accuracy.

Just yesterday I developed a load pressure testing it using LeveRevolution powder under the 35-200-FN that runs 2384 fps at the muzzle and hold 1600 fps + at 250 yards. The psi was 37,900 which is below the SAAMI MAP for the 30-30 which is what the Marlin 336 is actually made for. That load should be a deer, pig, bear and perhaps even elk killing thumper.
