Anyone happen to have any pictures of some vi tage varmit rigs ?

I wish I did my buddy Ray in the valley showed me all the fancy 22/250's , his 220 Swift, couple 22 Hornets, going to say it was a swarm.

He liked good wood stocks and deep bluing and I was spoiled to handle them all .

I've had some (lots) of varmint rifles but the only vintage ones left are my wife's Sako/ER Shaw .250 Savage( 75gr hp)- a great prairie dog on up varmint load. And my 40's Remington 510- the closest thing I have to a suppressed gun.
My .223 and 22-250 wear plastic- they're ugly.

What do you consider vintage? I had a Savage 110L, originally from I believe 1964. I have no idea when it was turned into a varmint rig. It had a 27 1/2" barrel, chambered for 6mm Remington, big and heavy laminate stock, and a well worn out barrel from years of laser fast bullets. That rifle now lives with my brother. It could definitely use a new barrel, but it still shoots MOA with a certain load and 58gr Vmax. It is a great coyote rifle.

I may be the only one to put it to Varmit use but I am very happy to post here our "river bottom" ground hog stopper.
Bought it here on CB about 6 years ago.
Once we got the brass and cast projectile issue figured out it became very fast our favorite close in varmit rifle. The 200 grain 44 FNPB 40-1 slug propelled by 36 grains of Goex 3F has never failed to reliably "thwap" with authority ever Ground Hog I have been able to lay the silver front sight on. Course the longest shot has been only 17 yards but it really puts the swap on the unsuspecting hole borer.
So here is our 1870 Frank Wesson 2nd Model (beveled rear chamber) caliber 44 Wesson Rifle.

I dont have pictures of them but I have a martini cadet that been rebarreled and stocked in 218 bee. Nice little light walking rifle. A sporter weight savage 23d in 22 hornet. This had an aperture sights on it but it now wears a 6X redfield scope. also a number 1V in 220 swift and a at10 in 243 and 22-250.

Back in the day when the big black power rounds werent popular a lot of hepburns, brochardts, high walls and stevens were rebarreled to varmint rifles and those early calibers. Then the popular calibers were 22 hornet, 219 zipper, 219 donandson wasp this one was very popular on the bench rest circuit also, 218 bee, 220 swift, in the 60s the 22-250 as a wildcattt there were several versions then. Also a bunch of improved versions of the above and true wildcatts.

At a local show a dew years ago I ran across a hepburn in 219 Donaldsin Wasp had a heavy Douglas 1-12 barrel 26" long and unertal 20X scope ( external adjustment) very nice walnut stock. Dont know the smith but whoever built it Did a really nice job.

I have several, depending on what you consider “vintage”.

A Marlin Ballard #3 converted from 32 Long to 22 WCF by V M Starr.

A Springfield Model 1922 converted from 22 LR to 22 Hornet.

And a Remington Model 722 in 222 Magnum.

I have a 219 Donaldson Wasp built on a Hi Wall, with beautiful case colors on the rebuilt reciever, a 2# trigger, beautiful marbled walnut with an
adjustable cheek piece. It wears a Varmint beautiful blued Buhmiller barrel, and a vintage Weaver T 16x varmint scope. Shoots tiny little cloverleafs at 100yds.

Country Gent dont know when it was built, the barrel has no wear on it at all, the guy I got it off of shot cast thru it. The first load I tried with 3031 and 53 Hornady match flat base, old bullets, shot a ragged hole at 100 yds, and you could see about half of each bullet. 405 pm me you ph# and I will send you pics.

Late '30s, Krags were commonly converted to .22-3000 Lovell, usually the R2 variant. There was apparently a supply of .22 barrels available from the government at giveaway prices, as were surplus Krags, so it was a natural marriage.

Here is one of mine: I have two Krags, one Stevens 44-1/2, and 'swlp me, a Ballard built by Sedgley.

i have an early Win 1886 in 40-82 cal that has killed many praire dogs, does that count?

Model 1894 Marlin that was made in 1907 or shortly thereafter. The special-order 26" barrel is 2" longer than the standard 24" for this model. The special-order sights sound like Beach and/or King's but could also be other brands. Sounds like a nice set-up for bunnies and other small game.

Folding front sight has an ivory bead, it probably is a Lyman #5 and not a Beach. (is it gold washed? All Beach front sights were gold washed) The tang sight with locking lever is a Lyman #2A. The rear barrel sight is either a Lyman #6 (should have a white diamond, not a line) or, since you said it had a white line, it may be a Winchester Express sight. Hard to tell without seeing it. Marlin offered Lyman sights through their catalogs so I would tend to think most of the sights, if original to the gun are Lyman sights

Remington 722 in .222-26" barrel
and another Remington 722 in .257 Roberts-24" barrel
The 722 was manufactured from 1948 to 1962.
It took me a long time to find the .257 Roberts, the .222 came pretty easy in comparison.
Both are very accurate
