This could prove to be very good advice depending on what boolit you're launching. When I was loading right at, or just over supersonic velocities, I could get nice 1.5" groups at 50yds. Move it out to 100yds and groups would open up to 4"+. I was loading the Lee 170 fn gc, without the gas checks. My only guess is that boolit goes unstable when it transitions to subsonic in flight. I can load the same boolit to 1400 fps.+ and hit 2-3" groups at 100yds. The only difference is that the boolit is still supersonic at 100yds when loaded at, say about, 1350 + fps. The same boolit loaded subsonic at the muzzle, will also print sub- 3" groups. Go figger. My goal after this bit of frustration is to load at velocities that will avoid the transition from super to subsonic while in transit to the mark. Different boolits will behave differently. Simply adding a gas check my Lee 170 may have cured my problem, but I haven't tried a back to back experiment on that theory.

This intrigues me. I got a fair bit of TG, but I normally use the stuff for 9mm and pistol calibers. My trailboss stock has ran dry, and I've been looking for an alternative. Will try this in 30-30 and 7.62x39 eventually.

I use a lot of that powder in handgun cartridges, and things being what they are, seeing a 4 pounder for sale under 100 bucks I nabbed it up.

I've been using Red Dot for most of my reduced rifle loads the last couple years, but I'm getting low and don't want to burn it up in my rifles as it's my favorite 45 Colt powder and I've not more than 3 pounds left. Anyone here have any experience with TiteGroup in rifle cases?
    I've 9nly ever used it in .223.

There are a few loads for reduced rifle. Really no range.. Just that 1 loading.

The ballistics of Titegroup are very, very close to bullseye and 700x, and you will find lots of loads for them in the Lyman Cast Bullet Handbook. As always, as burn rates are not exactly the same, you must start low and be prudent.

This is great news! Titegroup is one of the cheaper available powders locally!!!

Anyone have a copy of the article from Handloader?

Back in the 50's I lost a .30-30 square bolt lever Marlin shooting cast bullets with a light load of revolver powder trying to reduce the recoil.
I would stick with the powders like Unique, 2400, 4227 or 4198. Too much of a chance for destination instead of a progressive burn.
While I would agree sort of to some of the powders on the market, I will say that Titegroup isn't one of those powders since it was designed from the beginning to be not only temperature insensitive but also position insensitive.

I wanted to dislike Titegroup for large capacity pistol cases and I tried Bullseye and Unique in a 41 magnum for light loads. Titegroup was the least affected by case position over Bullseye and Unique. I did an average of 6 rounds by tilting the gun up, down, and neutrally settled across the bottom of the case for each powder. Unique had a 100 fps ES, Bullseye was less but not ideal (about 60 fps). Titegroup had an Extreme Spread of about 20. I settled on 4.0 gr of Titegroup with a moly coated 190 gr bullet. I don't see that it wouldn't perform the same in rifle cases. Hodgdon actually has reduced load data for several calibers in Titegroup specifically for cast bullets.

With such loads, the real risk is double charges, since they rarely even approach 50% fill ratio. I'd venture to say that more revolvers have been blown up by double charges of Bullseye than all other causes put together, despite the inevitable excuses. Large rifle cases not so much, because the guns they go into tend to be built for 50 or even 60kpsi. OTOH run a double charge of a "safe" 1400 fps load of Titegroup through a Krag and you'll have a cracked bolt lug at the least. Eternal vigilance is the price of safety.

    My late night nickel's worth.

The 243 case will be very difficult to visually discern weather or not the powder level in case is correct or doubled, even tripled.

You can always go to hodgdon and lookup titegroup and get it's data. for instance.. here is the data block for .223 rem using a 55gr projectile. ( pressure was cut off at the bottom.. 4000CUP )

Anybody have a favorite 300 grain trapdoor level .45-70 load to share? I currently use 12.8 grains Unique under a Lyman 292, however that stuff is expensive and hard to find here.
    Currently casting and loading: .32 Auto, .380 Auto, .38 Special, 9X19, .357 Magnum, .257 Roberts, 6.5 Creedmoor, .30 WCF, .308 WCF.

Well it's not any less expensive or easier to find but I love shooting 45-70 with Trail Boss
