    On Ode to Promo

It started as a favor for a friend in need.

My friend lamented, “I cannot find powder for trap loads”.

I am fortunate to be able to help…this good man who brought me to Jesus.

My shelves hold his trap shooting salvation.

Jugs of Promo, Clays, International, AA Light, and Universal abound!!!

As I glance at the four jugs of Promo, my mind races.

It is one of my core powders. Can I let any of it go?

    A jug will make 16,000 .38 Spls.

Another jug will make 14,000 9mm’s

The third will make 4,300 .308 loads

And the last will make 3200 trap loads.

I am selfish and think to myself, “Promo is too valuable to give up.”

Satan pips in, “Your friend does not need such a wonderful powder to bust stupid clays.”.

Satan wins…. I offer my friend the rest of my cache. Over 50 lbs.

"Take what you want." I tell my friend.

But my guilt lingers, and I pray to the Lord for forgiveness.

He hears my admission of selfishness and puts a thought into my little pea brain.

“Sell the rest for $24/lb…you bastard.”

But Lord, I will never be able to replace it for that price!!!

And this time the Lord wins.

My friend cannot believe his good fortune and exclaims, “Will you sell all of it!”

And so, my beloved Promo remains home, but my powder shelves are sadly depleted.

My friend departs with a **** eating grin.

May the Lord have mercy on my soul.

Promo, just edges out Unique for my needs as the most important powder to stock. At one time I had 64 lbs on hand, but with old age I have let things slip.

Frankly, I was a bit shocked I had let it get down to 4 jugs.

I can shoot everything I have with Promo except 20 and 28 ga. With Promo, Unique, and Varget I have the Holy Trinity of smokeless powders...the Father, Son and Holy Ghost.

In my younger days, I wasted time on foolish quests for “optimum” loads. I still have 27 powders on the shelves as a constant reminder.
