    Alliant Steel

Hello all, Has anyone tried Alliant Steel in magnum handgun cartridges? With a burn rate #60 halfway between Accurate #9 #58 and VV N110 #62 seems it should work in 30 Carbine, 357mag, 41mag and the like. Gp

I made a journey into all the nifty stuff like Steel, 20/28 and the like when powder was short. Found out what most handloaders and castboolit people already knew. Just about any shotgun powder can be adapted to revolvers if you need it too.

Just be aware that some might have to be measured by Volume not weight.

I like Steel. Do take my observations with a grain - or maybe a block - of salt. It is slightly slower than Blue Dot, but faster than #2400. Herco load data should be a conservative starting point. A shot gun powder, it is designed to run in the 12K to 16K psi range. Don't hot rod it! It won't meter, you DO NEED to weigh it.

Thanks All for the replies. Just curious I guess. I noticed the burn rate and wondered "Why not" I've got a lot of powder I have data for so likely the Steel will be used for shotgun loads. Happy New Year! Gp
