32 hr mag,,and 327 mag,,4227...accuracy champ!!
I like it in my 38 special revolver and 357 magnum bolt rifle and 308 Winchester lever action and...
I like it in the 45 Colt under the 454424, outstanding accuracy at 850-1000fps. Also use in 30-30, .308 Win, 303 Savage, 300 Savage for pleasant shooting - 1400-1700 fps with 150-180 grain bullets, also good in my Marlin 1894's, a 218 Bee and a 44 Mag. Got my latest 8 pounder just before the rush. In rifles it works much like 5744.
I use 4227 in the 25-20 rifle and the 45 Colt revolver. 20 grains of 4227 under a 250-260 grain cast bullet in the 45 Colt is a tack driver and not a "Ruger only" load.
Disclaimer: The above is not holy writ. It is just my opinion based on my experience and knowledge. Your mileage may vary.
38-40 , 44-40 , .44 Spl , .45 Colt , .22 Hornet , .218 Bee , .30 Carbine , pretty versatile powder . I load it in the 38-40 and 44-40 . Tried it in the Bee and the Hornet with moderate success but W680 worked so much better I didn't waste any real time playing with it for them. H110 is better in the .30 Carbine in my opinion but the 4227 is good . Works good in the .44 and .45 but Unique and 2400 , even Herco for my use are better powders.

Since it worked so well in my 32-40 for relatively mild target loads, I was wondering how it would do in the 32 revolver cartridges without this heavy a load. FWIW, I will be limiting these loads to Ruger Blackhawks, so high pressure should not be a problem, but I wonder whether it would be a desirable solution(?)

I use it with dacron in 38/55 under a 250 gr Lee boolit. 17 gr I think.
Went out and assembled a new exercise bike for dad and told him I could use the powder. He was reluctant now and said he would give me "a taste" to see if I liked it, and if so, then could have the whole jug. So, he poured a few ounces out of the sealed 8lb jug and I'll work up some loads with it and see how my XDM 10mm likes it.
He also had a few thousand large pistol primers stacked on the shelf he doesn't need. So, with the powder and primers, I could shoot 10mm and .45 Colt for a decade if I had to.

45 colt Ruger loads is good. You probably will not enjoy 4227 very much in 10mm auto. Bluedot is about ideal, I'm not sure if I've ever even seen 2400 data. I know nobody uses H110. 4227 is even slower than H110. It will probably go bang, but I wouldn't expect much. It may or may not even work the slide.
Really your dad should not have that much powder laying around and since the powder is so old and everything and might waste your time ..I am the Official Missouri Disposal Station for any and all powders and in any quantities up to and including 8lb kegs

Looks like you got a jug of useful powder!
How fortunate to have 8 #s of 4227 fall into your lap. I'm working my way through an 8 # jug right now, and it's really become my favorite powder for 44 mag. loads. Accuracy has been better than what I'm getting from 2400 (Not quite full power loads). Oh, and here's a few thousand primers too... NICE!!!
What could possibly go wrong?
I use between 15 and 16 grains in my 30-30's with a 185 grain bullet from a custom Accurate mold for a very accurate and mild load. Shot several Beavers with a Scoped Marlin 336 a few years ago. I also use 4227 for reduced loads in several other cartridges. .308 Winchester and 338 Winchester magnum are two of them.
Good Luck,
Rick
