My father picked up this handsome big iron! Bought from a feller he works with that purchased it new. Story goes he shot it once, cleaned it, and put it back in the case and into the closet. He tells my dad about it and offers to sell it plus a couple boxes of ammo. Sold!

A 5.5" new-model Blackhawk in .45 Colt, produced in 2005, for $600 and I believe its story. The gun is nearly spotless, not even the bluing is touched from the cylinder gap, no flame cut. It is absolutely a new gun. The only thing it has against it is a light turn mark on cylinder. Its been fondled more that it was shot. May buy it off my dad if he decides to sell it but im welcome to shoot it as is. Good excuse to dig out my .45 Colt supplies and do some load development for it. I don't think he stole it but a decent price + the ammo with it. I like the Blackhawks, nice piece of iron!

That's a sweet looking piece of big iron!
My dad just put a 45lc/45acp Blackhawk on layaway with our local gunsmith friend, it's a sweet setup with both cylinders. Definitely a bucket list gun for me.

Its good to have a new single action in the collection! Its been a while since ive shot an SAO wheelie. Have several friends that are really big into old western style iron and they do reenactments and a lot of gun fight acting. We have a historical part of Wichita as a museum called Cowtown. Part of Wichita's history & heritage. They do gunfight shows down there, all real guns but firing BP blanks. The Ruger doesn't fit that bill but we do actually go to the range with them and have a good time. Most all of it is .45 Colt so the Blackhawk is a good range companion for such outings!

He did not overpay in todays market. Maybe not even in tomorrows market. They are fine shooting guns. I got lucky and found a convertible for just under that but while shopping for the last year they were avg. around 700 and up. Anytime I see 600 or less I look a little harder.

Well thats good! I really didn't know what the market for Blackhawks is like, just guessed it was a good price. For its condition, dad did well!

I like that 5.5 , mine is shorter and the other short one I gave to my oldest son a couple of years ago as he had to have the Ruger , not a SAA clone , went to range after 6 shots of Ruger only all he wanted to shoot was the lower power , funny as I prefer the lower power now a days .

But I had to have those big heavy slugs and Ruger only loads , and now I just use the Uberti 45 with a load appropriate for it .

Enjoy that Ruger , I quit buying them when the price went past what I liked , same with the SAA clones .

Rcbs 255 SWC and 8.5 gr of Unique and you are ready to go! (Just my favorite load for the 45 Colt for all shooting). Deer don't even slow the big slug up, it keeps right on going!

    That's a nice one, but that's a 4-5/8" barrel.

Ill have to take your word for it! I just guessed on that, haven't actually measured it yet.

I need to do a archeological dig through the mold stash and see what I have for .45 cal molds.

I have one like that except it is a 357/ 9mm. Wish mine were a .45. I have lots of .45 bullets I picked up in a trade.

That's kinda ironic! I would prefer. 38/.357 since I have far more resources in those cartridges beings they are a personal favorite and most of my wheelguns are .38/.357. But I do like .45 Colt and have a couple in that cartridge and some components. Its fun hucking big 45cal lead down range and im likely to add more to the collection.

Myth, I also have a Ruger Blackhawk in .357 with plenty of cases, bullets and molds. I have considered buying a .45 caliber - barrel and having the .9mm cylinder rebored to 45. At my age it will probably never happen. One problem I have had in the past, I never did a conversion that went well. In my experience, it is far better to let the factory to the work. The pistol on the bottom is an old three screw I have had for many years. I agree with you, the .357 is a great cartridge and if I could only have one piston, it would be in that caliber.

    Way cool.

But be careful where you point it.
I've heard on the news they fire on their own without pulling the trigger.

Has anyone heard what type of projectile actually killed the camera women? Was it a bullet or a wad?

Check the cylinder throats. These are notorious for measuring undersized. DougGuy is your man to hone them to proper size.

Ya, those single-actions, just itching malfunction, especially on movie sets......with live ammo.....

At our Fri night USPSA matches we have substituted hits on no-shoot targets now as Alec Baldwins.

JAC, I recall a good number of threads about throat diameter issues & unevenness on Rugers. Luck of the draw if any piticular one is good or needs work. Ill need to check this one still but Doug is the #1 guy I'd send it to!

    It isn't a 5.5 in. barrel, it's 4 5/8 as Texas mentioned. The bottom picture in GOPHER's post is a 5 1/2.
