    45-90 360gr. Wild west cart. Co. ?

Anyone recognize this ammo maker and components?
Powder burns real bright red, definetly smoke.58 grains.

Bullet has no grooves at all. No card under it and its real hard. Definetly above 22bhn. Cannot even begin to scratch it with my finger nail.
    Box came with rifle.

1886 win. Serial # puts it at early second year production.

Some photos of the cartridge and the cartridge box may help us. The description is pretty vague but it seems like you have a box of Wild West Cartridge Company 45-90 cartridges with 360gr bullets.

What do you mean by “definitely smoke”?

When lit it put off just as much smoke as bp. The powder being so light colored caught my attention.

That's black powder, looks like the powder I make. Doesn't look like any commercial powder I know. Pyrodex?

I suspect you have a semi-smokeless powder. During the BP transition period, there were companies that offered mixtures of black and smokeless. Two come to mind, Kings powder and Lesmok. I don’t know if Wild West Cartridge either of the two but it eventually transitioned to Winchester which used Lesmok in 22 rimfires.

This is an old ammo company, no longer extant?
