I recall seeing 1# rolls of "lead free" solder recently for either $30 or 39.95 each. That makes it sound like a better deal.

That is still a minimum of $10.00 to $20.00 a roll cheaper than you can buy it retail. If they are 1 pound rolls.

That's about the right size to do electronics soldering. Less than $20/roll is a great price. More better than lead free when it will be subject to vibration or impact.

Does blow my mind! 3-4 years ago I got 3/4 of a 50 lb. roll of 50-50 at an estate auction for $35.

Since we are comparing things..................How about the 25 one-pound factory Sn ingots I got at a scrap yard for a buck a pound! That's the PURE stuff! They thought it was Pb.

The price of solder has gone thru the roof. Back when plumbers were forced to get rid of 50/50 lead-bearing solders, lots of 25 & 50# rolls of the stuff showed up in scrap yards. I managed to "rescue" at least 4 of them!

Just reading that EVs will increase demand for tin. It's used in Li-Ion batteries. Who knew?
