    480 ruger starting loads

New member needing help loading 480 ruger with 2400 powder 370gr cast bullets starting load ? My manual jumps from 325gr to 400gr with 2400.

I’d interpolate a load based on the two you have data for, after a copious amount additional web searches.

The Lee manual lists a cast 375 grain pill, but it only lists Ramshot Enforcer for powder. I concur with Tj, interpolate using data for the listed bullets. I've done it with other data myself with great results.

I only load 325 gr cast but if I had a mold for 370 I would just use the starting for 400 gr. I was considering a 365 gr mold. What do you have in 370?

I realize OP said 2400. I'll share some AA#9 data any way.
AA Lists #9 data for the 370 gr cast 19 gr 1220 fps - 21 gr max 1320 fps. 7.5" barrel
19 gr AA#9 with the 400 gr lee has been working well in my gun.

Cast bullet handbook #4 lists 13.5 of 2400 for a start load for a 400 grain bullet. This or 14.0 would be a good place to start. They list 18.0 for a max load with a 400 grain bullet. I load the mp 477-640 with 18.0 grains of 2400. My bullet is a large hollowpoint and weighs 385 grains. 480 ruger bullets seem to differ alot from the base to the crimp groove, but this information should give you a good safe place to start.
Due to the price of primers, warning shots will no longer be given!

    Good morning
If a start load of 2400 is safe with a 400 grain cast the same powder weight of 2400 will be safe with a 370 grain cast.
We have a 475 Linebaugh and shoot all cast through it. Unique & 2400 get alot of use with loads up to 1050 fps. And with a 370 grainer anything you see in ol Penn State under 50 yards is going to be in alot of hurt. We hunt river bottoms so range to critter is always close.
For hunting we use 50% WW with 50% soft (range scrap or pure lead) with plain base. No Hard Cast is needed or desired. But if that is all you have a .476 whole will leak alot. Put it through the shoulders and no tracking needed. Soft slugs for us normally expand to .50+ and always exit.
