Looks like some type of Acraglass?
Something tells me that stock would be very uncomfortable to put your face against while sighting in freezing weather.

Yes, it is a '96 and I've found some other examples but with different swing stocks which had a stuffed bun (for lack of putting it better) that laced around the upper arm. A Swedish gentleman won the '60 Olympics using one with a perfect score.
Here's some folks that know a hell of a lot more than I do and have answered questions:

Apparently very few were made. Since 1978 the biathlon it is small-bore only. Interestingly, some previous Russian winners used a Mosin! I think my hope of what the receiver wrap was made from can only be conjecture and I can't find many more pics. I think I may try and make one. I have 11 '96 receivers (seven complete) and LOTS of time being retired.
Looks like somebody fitted a Carl Gustave burp gun stock to a m96 but I don't see how a folding stock would make it a biathalon rifle. An aircrew or tanker maybe but I don't see a wobbley folding stock on any precision competition rifle.
Watch the video in his linked post , you can see how he is wearing the rifle straight down his back with stock folded so as not to inhibit his skiing , very interesting .
I would like to put a .270 Win Savage 110 in a stock like that. That would be interesting.
Dutchman, I ran into those pics after more googling. I laughed when I saw the '96 with NINE holes all scattershot in the receiver! With one of the 96's I blew up, I was beforehand certain it would unzip along four holes drilled in the ring - nope! It went like the rest, out the thin extractor cut right sidewall.
I'm going to guess the non-wood part of the 'stock' is an aluminum casting?
Not yet. Forecast calling for 8-16" here and up to 48" a bit north and west. The storm has been delayed about 24 hrs from the original prediction. No snow yet, but the wind picked up a few hours ago. Depending on how bad it gets, it's a welcome change from the subzero highs of the last 2 weeks.
Y'all keep that stuff up there will ya?
Slim
JUST GOTTA LOVE THIS JOINT.
Those AG42b rifles and their Egyptian cousins are very neat rifles. The 96 in the picture above the Ljungman makes me wonder what the Swedish name for "Bubba" is.
