    44 special and 185s

I ordered a Lyman Cast Reloading Book but it wont be here til later in the week and none of my books offer a stsrting load.

    185 grain LWSC (12 Brinell)
Looking to use Unique but also have H110, Lil Gun and 2400.

    For a S&W 629, 3" 44 mag.

Anyone have an established starting load, I am thinking 7 grains of Unique but wanted to check.

If I had any faster powder like bullseye, 700 x, red dot, I would start at about 5 grs. and work up if needed.
I think 7 grs. of unique would be a bit high for a starting load unless your not putting a lot of the boolit in the case.
The slower powders don’t make much sense with that boolit to me ?

Your suggested load of 7.0 grains of Unique should work just fine, though those are hard boolits, you may have to kick them a bit harder to ensure obturation and avoid leading. You ought to be able to safely work up to the 8.0-8.2 grain range for general use. If you are loading for a 4" or longer barreled revolver Like a Ruger or N-frame Smith, you ought to be able to reach 1000 fps without exceeding SAAMI limits easily.

Ok, thanks. Its for a 3" N frame 629. I received my Lyman Cast Boolit manual but it doesnt have any loads for boolits below 205 grains. Kinda disappointed in it. Its no different than my Lyman 50th manual

I corrected my original post. They are 12 BRN not 18.

12 is plenty hard. I can push those to 1200 fps without problems.
