    17hmr ammo

I have a couple of Ruger 17HMR rifles. I'm finding a lot of 17 HM2 and 22 WMR, even some plain old plinker 22 ammo. Not a single box of HMR in stock on store shelves. Why? Is it that popular or being still hoarded?

    Yes & yes

In my area it's been mostly invisible for about 6 months, with just the occasional sighting. As for 17HM2, I bought a couple of boxes by accident about a year ago. The worst part is that I can't find a lefty bolt action 17HM2 rifle to shoot up the ammo! It's just not right!!

The local Bi Mart had Win. 17 HMR recently.
They would only sell you 2 50rnd boxes a day.
I sent the grandkids in a couple of times and went every day until it was gone.
Hoarding? Maybe, but I have 700 rnds to start out sage rat season next year.
You can shoot 200-400 rnds on a good day.

I don't consider a couple of bricks hoarding. When it turns into several cases......

You're right, Bi-Mart does have some. Picked up a couple of boxes. I will also be using it on sage rats. I'll keep checking to set aside a brick for the rat season.

I am seeing 17HMR ammo showing up.
Prices are approaching $20 a box.
I can reload my centerfires for less than that price even with price of jacketed bullets.
Cast bullets bring the cost down even more.

I’ve seen exactly 2 boxes for sale in my AO in the last 18 months . So I’m down to about 300 rounds - luckily woodchuck season is about over for the year so hopefully I can score some this winter or Al next spring .
