    Tumble or Pan Lube

I cast up some Lee 405gr 45-70 bullets and plan on using smokeless powder loads that will be kind of mid velocity. These will be used in a 24" Encore rifle. I have been tumble lubing all my cast boolits for my pistols and it works well for them. The lube is the 45-45-10 . For the 405gr in my rifle, will tumble lubing be ok in it or should I be pan lubing them?

I've had success with TL 45-70 bullets, I load all my cast 45-70 bullets with trap door loads.

TL will work just fine. Two light to medium coats and you're off to the races. At least, up to 1500 fps or so for plain base.

I just cast and tumble lubed the same bullet with 45-45-10 for my 45-70 Buffalo Classic, I used “The Load” that C.E. Harris came up with using Red Dot powder. I was pretty surprised with the results.

    Either will work.

Ya might not want to load up too many of those without firing a few in that lighter weight of a rifle.
I loaded a bunch up in the 'teens' for speed, and soon wished I'd loaded them down closer to the old trapdoor speeds.

Of the ones I have left, I save them to shoot in the winter when I'm wearing a heavy coat.
