    age of red dot cannister

3 or 4 years ago I bought a cardboard 8 # cannister of red dot. I was curious when Hercules stopped selling powder in cardboard containers.

I got mine in 1989 when there was an explosion at the Hercules plant in Jersey. At that time, pounds came in a tall cardboard can with tin ends and a plastic pull up spout.

I have a pink Hercules Red Dot keg as well, I think the price tag on it says $4.95, it is a 4#er. I haven’t used it, but did open it to see the powder looks great.

I’ve got one of those cardboard containers but don’t know how old it is. I used up all the powder long ago but kept the container cause it looks cool. The black plastic containers powder comes in anymore don’t do much for me.

I think it was the late 90's, 2000, or very soon thereafter when all the major players were phasing in plastic containers.

at one point in time, I came across a vintage 15 lb paper canister with metal ends. The guy that bought it new, used it to load shotgun shells (from mid 70s until mid 80s.)

A fellow trap shooter and I bought a 15 lb cardboard keg of Red Dot in 1981. We split the contents of the keg.

I bought a cardboard container of RedDot from a friend at work, around 1979-1980. I have about 1lb left, and it's still good.

Hercules sold the powder business to Alliant in 1995 so it is at least that old .

Late 90’s is right. I have some 8# red dot kegs with an alliant sticker pasted over the Hercules logo. I miss those old days of $90 kegs.

I have a 15# keg of Red Dot (about 1/3rd full) so old that the red dots are fading. It still smells and shoots good. Because of this I try to use Red Dot as much as possible. I don't know how old it is but the price tag on the top says $46...

Late 90's for me was still cardboard. Design and color was same as from the 70's as I remember.
“You should tell someone what you know. There should be a history, so that men can learn from it.

He smiled. “Men do not learn from history. Each generation believes itself brighter than the last, each believes it can survive the mistakes of the older ones. Each discovers each old thing and they throw up their hands and say ‘See! Look what I have found! Look upon what I know!’ And each believes it is something new.

Mid to late 80's I bought 24 pounds of Unique in 3 cardboard 8 pound containers. The distributor was closing out all his bulk cardboard Hercules powder for --- wait for it --- $3.00 per pound. Why didn't I buy more!!!
