Sellier & Bellot Club 22lr target ammo Anyone tried it?

I ran across a few boxes of this ammo today and am going to give it a try.
It is supposed to be a new development for S&B. New machinery and tighter tolerances. Purported to be very accurate, but then they are trying to sell it.
I know the brand has been around a while but this stuff is supposed to be relatively new.

I shoot in a 22 league on Wed. evening each week. A friend of mine shot some in practice tonight. I asked how it shot and he said not too good but not too bad for cheap ammo. He did not shoot it in the match.

Results are mixed and skepticism is high.

I have not tried it as there is none available locally.

Thanks for the link Pressman. I have plenty .22's so not in the market currently, but hope to stock up for the next shortage when this one passes. This stuff does not look too promising.

Thanks for the link. There had been some problems associated with the older version of this ammo but nothing so far on the new version.
It is advertised as precision manufacturing and very tight tolerances. They are pricing it as midrange target ammo.
It will be interesting to see how it performs.

Tazman, I have been thinking about this all night. All that came to mind was my favorite Snoopy saying "Curse you Red Barron". I went out yesterday completely innocent and decided to stop in at Cabela's in the off chance they may have some Sellier & Bellot Club 22lr. As expected, they have nearly bare shelves for rimfire ammo. But I just had to wonder over to the used rifle rack, it's nearly bare also, mostly shotguns now. Except this neat little falling block rimfire rifle. Marked R.Murdock, made by National Firearms Company. I have always wanted a falling block 22 and now was my chance, temptation overcame common sense and it followed me home.

Another winter project. The bore is bad, but it shoots very well. Maybe reline it someday.

I seem to remember something about the "Law of Unintended Consequences".
I usually avoid gun stores like the plague. I like too many of the firearms I see and, quite often, end up either buying or wishing I had purchased something that was there.
I would say I feel sorry for you but I really don't. Congratulations on your find.

The bore can't be all that bad if it still shoots very well. I'd wait a while on relining, unless you're just bored or something.

I got my answer about the S&B Club ammo today. I went to the range and shot some of it in my CZ 457 MTR.
I gave it a fair test. The rifle was freshly cleaned and I fired 25 rounds of the S&B Club through it before I began shooting for groups.
I never really got one. At least, not one like this rifle is capable of. Groups were about twice the size of groups fired using Eley Match.
This stuff is good enough to hit a squirrel's head about 8 of ten shots at 50 yards. I have other, much cheaper ammo that shoots as well or better.
This is the last of this stuff I will buy.
For an ammunition touted as precision, it is pathetic.
Here is the target I shot with this ammo using my CZ MTR. You can easily see the difference in group sizes.

Bummer. Well, a helpful thread to read for this if nothing else:

Given the tendency to utilize local resources when testing, developing, evaluating, and producing, you would think that Czech "precision" ammo would deliver the goods out of your Czech rifle, if it would deliver them anywhere.

Sadly, the quest for Eley/Lapua/SK Jagd results from non-Eley/Lapua/SK Jagd .22 ammo seems to be the perpetual snipe hunt of the rimfire hobby. Pandora kept Hope locked in the box - there isn't much of it out in the world for that particular prospect, which usually comes off with the validity of alchemy or an episode of Ghost Hunters.

Update on the S&B ammo. I found a gun it shoots well in. I have a S&W 22a-1. It shoots the S&B ammo well. Also functions the firearm well.
At least I have a use for it now until it runs out.
I still won't be buying any more.

It's a rebranded Hopkins & Allen Junior, or 922 if you prefer.
