Standard Arms Model G 35 REM

Finally got it in the right section.

I stopped at a very small gunshop today and in a wall rack they had a rifle I'd never seen before. They knew little about it, except that it was in 35 REM and could be operated as a semi auto or a pump.
No one there, including me, knew how to operate it.
Anyways, they were asking $1600 for it, which is way more than others online.
And, apparently, they're not very reliable, though great looking.
    Here's the rifle:

Anyone here ever own or use one?

I have a .30 cal Model M, which is pump only. Shot it a couple of times, but it seemed kind of finicky, so never took it hunting. They are a cool looking rifle though.

I believe one of the old Reloaders Digest had an article on them, and the author was testing one in caliber .25 Remington.

Layne Simpson wrote about killing a deer with his Standard in .25 Remington. They were chambered for the Remington Rimless cartridges only.

Interesting reading where the article says they failed abysmally. I would make sure that was fixed before I bought one.

I own two... picked them up 25 years ago within two weeks of each other. I liked the appearance of the ornate buttplate & slide. The sight is kind of funky, it slides into the front of the receiver and has a "backwards" elevator. It looks weird. Both seem to function in manual mode fine... haven't ever tried them in the semi-auto mode. I was told by my gunsmith (LeeRoy Wisner) that was where the rifles problems multiply fast...

I went back to the shop to check it, and a few more guns, again. The seller of the Standard Arms said that because it had the semi-auto mode (Model G) it was very rare and worth alot more than the $1600 he was asking. Ah...no.
They also had a Vetterli and a Beaumont rifle that were mismarked - they said the Vetterli was a Beaumont, and the Beaumont was a Vetterli. I tried to set them right, but they insisted that the rifles were what they said they were. They came from a "high end collector" and that's what he told them about the rifles. OK. A 10 minute online search would settle it, but...no.

I've had four or five Standards over the years, and can tell you that the automatics are much more common than the pump only model. I shot CB through one of .35 Remingtons. Just used .358311 and a bit of unique, just to hear it go bang, really.
Value? I've seen 'em at gun show at all kinds of nutty prices, but i sold the last one I had, a .30 Rem. Model M ( pump only) and a darn nice specimen for about $400. I was disappointed, but that's an auction.

Apparently the guns were well made except for one fragile piece in the semi-autos. They're interesting, good looking guns. I'd like to find one but not at $1600.

i picked up one back in the day for 20 bucks in the bar. Guys said if he couldnt get 20 bucks hed toss it in the trash. I took it home shot a box of shells through it and gave it away. It would be a cool wall hanger for sure but i sure wouldnt pay big money for one.

When I was a kid I recall a Standard ad in the AR from Numrich of the day. A Standard arms kit needing only to be deburred to be assembled. Right!
