Value of Vintage 41 Short Rim Fire Cartridges with Box

    Hi, Guys -

A friend gave me a box labeled “Remington UMC Kleanbore” containing a 23 count of cal. 41 Short Rim Fire cartridges.

From reading a bit about these, apparently they were indicated for use in derringers made mostly in the 19th century.

I was wondering what a reasonable value of these item might be. I’m trying to assess whether it would be worth selling same in light of the UPS shipping costs. If so, I could do so and surprise my buddy with the proceeds! He wouldn’t be expecting that!

    Here’s a pic:

Any comments on reasonable value would be appreciated!

    Thanks,

Seem to me that you ought to just buy a derringer to go with them. jd
It seems that people who do almost nothing, often complain loudly when it's time to do it.

Had a box like that given to me with 15 or 20 rounds in it back in the 1980s. Had another friend that had the derringer so I gave them to him. A few misfires or had to try them twice to get them to fire, but only time he ever got to shoot the gun.

    Thanks, Guys -

Doesn’t look like they would be worth the exercise of selling them given the shipping cost.

There isn’t a premium for shipping ammo by ups, just label requirements to ensure that it goes by ground. At least that’s been my experience.

I called UPS to discuss shipping costs. I was told that depending on the destination, UPS costs could be upward of $20 or so…

That’s not inconsistent, although I think I shipped 30lbs of ammo from NC to NY for about $20 so they might be guessing high. My point was only that you’ll pay the ground shipping rate based on the size and weight of the package, there is no premium charged to you based on the contents being ammunition.

I observed individual 41 Short Rimfire selling for $5. per round at the Big Reno gun show this past weekend. Boxes of 50... $250-$300.
