    Bittersweet!

Today has been wonderful! I was able to get my 2 youngest boys out to start off the deer season. My youngest is 10. It hit me as we were walking in the dark that this is the last "first" deer season for my kids. I am blessed with 5 remarkable children and a wife that love the outdoors also
I enjoy hunting with my family more than anything else on the planet, and I am looking forward to each and every opportunity that I have to share these days with them.
Here's a very proud little man (taken by a pretty proud father!!) with his first deer.
Used his 1892 SRC in 32 WCF, shooting a 115gr cast from a Lyman 3118 that he and I loaded together with a Lee Loader.

Although we don't hunt deer (we have a bad feral hog problem at our place) there ain't nothin' better than taking your son or daughters out for the first time. I only have one son but I remember taking him out 23 years ago when he was 8. He was taught that you don't take more game than you can use.

Good for you and you sons.

Your son did very well and he will remember this for the rest of his life. And you did very well yourself as you taught him the basics. It's something the two of you can always share and remember.

    Well done all around!
And he will just smile when some "expert" says that his gun is too small for deer.

Thomas that is hilarious that you just said that!! My wife's social media followers apparently told her how irresponsible it it is to 1) let a mere child use such an old weapon 2) let anyone hunt with such antiquated sights 3) use anything short of the newest seven thousand louden boomer to hunt deer with.
But yes, his first shot broke the deer's right front leg and took out the base of his heart at around 90 yards, my boy finished him with a neck shot at around 2 yards.

FANTASTIC! Good job, Dad! Another young man, started down the Right Road by a great dad. Thanks for raising great Americans. They ARE the future. There will be a lot of great reminiscences and conversation around the dinner table as you all share the bounty that your son provided for his family.

Taking your child out hunting is a special thing indeed. Too soon they take other roads on their life path. It is great to spend the little time you have with them, out together.
