Lee Light weight bullet for the 300 Blackout?

Has anyone tried the Lee molds in the Pistol 32-20 type making light bullets in the 300BLK? or the C309 120 R from the rifle list.
How did they work for you?

Allow me to audit this, I have the 120 gr gas check and am wondering about it for the BO also. I got it for 30 carbine a long time ago and haven't done much with it. Seems like it would be okay though.

I've been working on "starting" to do so. Does that count?

I cast these up a couple of weeks ago with the intention of loading them for my Ruger Ranch in 300 BO.

And I gathered these up from my .32 caliber molds last year with the intention of loading them in 300 BO.

And I fooled around with seating a few types in empty cases.

But then I got side tracked and went off on a tangent and loaded these instead.

And shot them over a pinch of bullseye. It was incredibly fun. They were all very accurate at 25 yards, and very quiet.

It was just an experiment to see about creating a .22 type plinking load in 300 BO. Of course the little bullets are a better choice for that application.

What was your intention with your loads? Plinking or something more substantial?

Was just looking to punch holes in paper and small game, looking for a load that will cycle in a Ar15. Would cut back on lead usage a lot? I do have the Lee 314-95gr but was wondering if it give any problems with feeding etc? Like the idea of the little .311 ones with the round nose. Should state bullets will be PC

Do you think the little round nosed bullets would feed from the AR magazine?

I made up those empty dummy rounds to check the feed in my Ruger, which is the older model with the rotary magazine. And for the life of me, I can't remember whether they fed or not? Guess I need to seat a few and do the experiment again.

If you need a few to check the feed from the magazine, send me a private message with your address. I have the Lee 93 grain, the Lee 100 grain and the Lee 113 grain gas checked. I can send a couple to play with.

I also have the NOE version of the tumble lubed 75 grain. I think the ones I have in the garage already cast are either Hi-tek coated or with Smokes powder coating.

I shoot the 110 half jacket from AR BO, won't be sub and cycle with pistol powder. 8 gr cfe-pistol would just cycle a 142gr pb with pistol gas. 12gr 2400 ought to cycle the lee 120gr. 1400 fps.
    Whatever!

I tried to make light weight sub loads a while back but found that the small amount of powder needed gave very inconsistent speeds. If you lifted the muzzle up between shots so the powder pooled over the primer, you had a fairly consistent sub load. But if you just ran it as normal, speeds were all over the place, like 800-900fps to well into super. Johnny's reloading bench on youtube has a lot of good 300BO videos including some covering this issue. Now that I'm a big fan of Trail Boss I may try lightweight subs again and see if a casefull of TB will work.

I collect links to threads on this site for load information that I am interested in.

You can probably find a bunch more, but here are a few that I have collected over the years on 300 BO that I thought to contain useful discussions of loads.

The only 110-120 grain loads that I have seen mentioned that cycled an AR were jacketed loads, not cast bullets. Might have to resort to the gas checked Lee 113 or 120 to push them hard enough to cycle the action. Just a guess on my part. I will try to get the 113 grain Lee's that I have sent off today or tomorrow.

OK, just put them in the mailbox so I wouldn't get sidetracked onto something else.

    Left to Right:

120gr plated bullets - I had two boxes of these from Midway. So I threw them in just for the fun of it.

    Lee TL314-90-SWC

    Lee 311-93-1R

    Lee 311-100-2R

    Lee C309-120-R

I ran them (except for the copper plated) through my .310 sizer die before putting them in the envelope. Hopefully that will work for you.

I just did a database exercise where I recorded every mold I own, with photographs of the molds. I definitely have the 113gr Lee gas checked mold in my inventory, but the bullets I am sending were marked 120gr on the container and in fact they weighed 120 grains. Maybe the 113 grain bullet weighs 120 grains with gas check and lube? Not sure?

Hopefully these will help you with your project, if nothing else, just to see if they will feed from a magazine with such a short stubby profile.

Thanks again, will let you know when they arrive. Yes that was my main concern. feeding from the mag.

Round nose bullets, jacketed or cast, meant for the Carbine won’t feed in my rifle. They jam into the locking lugs. Hard.

I have tried the 93 gr swc with 3 & 4 grs of Red Dot, grouped well @ 25 yds but no cycle for action.

Looks as if I have the same problem, well it was worth a try.

It broke my heart as I have a box of 1,000 Hornady 110 grain JSPs that would have been nice to finally shoot up. Oh well, I’ll find a platform for them eventually.

Make up a few dummies and see, just because it did not work for me does not mean it may not work for you. Every rifle is a law into itself.
