    Pin gage set recommendation

Can anyone recommend a set or sets for general gunsmithing and machining?
Lots of options and price points out, not to mention plus or minus. Thanks

I have set of Meyer .251”-.500” minus. You definitely want the minus gauges. I got these from ebay for under $100. They were expensive to ship though. Very happy with this purchase.
Due to the price of primers, warning shots will no longer be given!

ZZ Minus is -.0002" and is the preferred set for gunsmith measurements. Also, you need the half thou set as well,as .001" increments are too coarse for accurate cylinder work. I have the .251" - .500" and I also have the .2515" - .5005" and use both equally. I bought the smaller pins for 22 caliber and bought the larger pins for 500 caliber, both in half thou increments. I think my 22 caliber pins run from .220" to .227" which is a total of 13 pins. I haven't needed pins between .227" and .250" but I think I did buy the .249", .2495" and .250" and .2505" to cover common 1/4" measurements and I use those but on general shop fabrication not on gun work.
Got a .22 .30 .32 .357 .38 .40 .41 .44 .45 .480 or .500 S&W cylinder that needs throats honed? 9mm, 10mm/40S&W, 45 ACP pistol barrel that won't "plunk" your handloads? 480 Ruger or 475 Linebaugh cylinder that needs the "step" reamed to 6° 30min chamfer? I bought my "minus" set from Enco a bunch of years ago. I believe they were bought out by MSC or Manhattan Supply Corp. Frank

eBay does have a lot of sets, many of them incomplete. I will try to find the half thou sets too. Seems like even imports could hold .001 tolerances.

Pretty sure my two sets came from Enco. They're the minus .0002".

Bought a USA-made minus set off eBay missing a couple of pins I will not likely need for cheap. You can always purchase a couple of singles if needed down the road.

Have full set of Meyers (plus and minus) up to .625. These are my most used pins for small stuff. I have a set of Vermont (US made) of plus pins from .626 to 1.0 inch. I use those mostly for quick checks when boring. Had calibration lab certs. Bought from shops closing down for fraction of new.
If you're doing just hobby stuff, import sets from Travers, KBC, etc will be fine.
If you buy a set used and missing a couple pins, individual Vermont or Meyers pins cn be bought from Amazon.
