You can use 4.0 grains of Unique as a starting load for the 158 grain SWC--a bit less for the 146 WC (3.5 grains).

+1 for the above info... For the 158gr boolits, 4.5gr Unique is MAX as per the 48th Lyman manual..

    Love them 38's !

My SWC boolits as cast, drop around 153 grs (plain WW's) from my RCBS 38-150-SWC mold.

I use 3.8 Unique (w/above) in all my 38 spl loads, pistol and 1894 Marlin. This is my target (silhouette) and plinker.

I've never chrony'd them but they work well for me.

I found this data on the web somewhere, in fact I started using this load a long time ago in an old RCBS Green machine and haven't changed to this day. YMMV

I have used 5.0-5.5gr. Unique in Sellier and Bellot .38 Spl. brass, standard primers in my 586 4" for years, with no pressure signs. I do like the load, altho they are listed as +P in my manuals, so advance with caution.
