    Put a dog down today

We've had to do it far too often and it's never easy. But she was in pain and it was the kindest thing to do for her. She could barely walk, but never cried out. She had a good life and brought joy into ours for 13 years. She was our longest lived dog.

FWIW, that is NOT her as my avatar. That's just a generic avatar that the forum supplies.

Hardest part of owning a pet. 5 cats, 4 dogs that we put down. It's never easy. Sorry for your loss.

    I feel for you.
I had my dog for 16 years and it was very hard to have her put to sleep.
But we don’t want them to suffer either.
    Time will heal.

My cat lived for 18 years.

Condolences from Central NYS. Been their a few times and it hurts to the core every time. Take comfort in the fact that the great memories live on forever. The Rainbow Bridge.

Sorry to hear. It's not easy putting a pet down. You did it for a good reason. She's not in pain anymore.

We had to put our Border Collie/ Austrailian Shepherd mix down a year ago, and yes, it's not something you wish to do. Our girl had had a cancer tumor in her mouth before this and we had it removed. The cancer returned in her shoulder and while playing one day her shoulder popped and she went downhill from there. And like you she was the third dog we had to have put down and it really messes with your head.
Sorry to hear about your situation.

I started to write somethings about my own pets I'v lost. It's hard. I feel for you buddy. Remember the good times.

He smiled. “Men do not learn from history. Each generation believes itself brighter than the last, each believes it can survive the mistakes of the older ones. Each discovers each old thing and they throw up their hands and say ‘See! Look what I have found! Look upon what I know!’ And each believes it is something new.

Thanks folks. Yes, it doesn't get any easier. I can't imagine how it hurts YHVH to lose a soul and he loses millions of them.

When we took the male AmStaff out approx' an hour after the vet left with Star he was obviously searching for her. He was heard to whimper a few times. He knows something happened. He'll figure it out eventually. Dogs grieve too.

They were companions for each other and he isn't going to be alone. Neither will we be for long. I've had my eye on the breed Staffordshire Bull Terrier. Think of a much smaller AmStaff. Same pretty much everything just noticeably smaller and 1/2 the weight, same dense build. Both Star and our present male were supposed to be Staf' bull terriers but we took them as rescue dogs. But I'm getting too old for big dogs anymore.

I feel for you. Man it is tough letting them go. But you did right by the dog, by not letting it suffer.

It’s a sad duty but we have to do it for them. I’ve had to put down over a dozen over the years. It’s hard. My condolences.

sorry to hear of your loss. You did the last act of kindness you could do for your pet. Its not easy, not in the least little bit. Keep remembering them and they will live forever in your heart.

Well, it's never easy. We put out gifted to us dachshund that we'd had for about 12 years down 2 years ago. I had to put down the male rat terror last fall, he and his two sisters were 13 at the time. They still look for him. Their dad also last year, he was about 15 and had gotten really frail. The two girls are still doing well and are over 14 now. But its always hard. We'll see them again later

I feel for you. I went through this last year. I always knew it would be bad when it came. I was just broken.
My wife, smartly, looked online that very day for another dog. She said that sun must not set on the house without a dog in it. She found us Sadie, a vizsla, that had been abandoned by her family. They moved out, threw a bag of food in yard, and left her. We went to meet her, she immediately climbed up into my lap and flipped belly up.

I hope you can ‘recover’ as much as any of us ever do when we lose one of our buddies. Hopefully knowing how many of us share your feelings helps.
