Mittens has been scratching a lot lately and while checking her out yesterday, I found a flea... Poor Mitts got a flea bath and will get a flea dot later today. Poor little thing can't scratch her left ear and it breaks our heart to see her try. Our cats are all indoor cats, but these things happen. She did feel better yesterday after the bath and made up with "Big Bad John the Giver of Baths".

We bought the Seresto collars for our dogs and cats this spring. They have worked well.

Stay on top of it, once fleas get established they can be very hard to get rid of, both from the cats (trust me if one has fleas, they all have fleas) and the home.

On a good note though. When I bought flea dots today, I picked up more toys for Mittens. It is so funny in the morning to find toys scattered around the house.

those drops you put behind neck and partway down spine have worked very well for my brood of 5 which is now 9 with the 4 new kittens, but that medicine is now about the same price from the vet as it is from Walmart or the coop. I figure its a worthwhile investment. yeast tablets seem to help with the dog but not sure if they are safe for cats, something I need to ask the vet next time I go there.
After trying the flea collar route ... I'm not giving a Cat a bath ... that's next to Hari-Kari ...
my wife found this brand of Flea-Med that you put drops onto nape of neck ... and it works .
The box says Bayer Advantage II large cat , once a month topical flea treatment ... it's one of the few treatments that actually do a good job ... without water bath .

The drops behind their head worked for us too.
Su8posedly, their blood becomes toxic to fleas.

the drops worked for my cat for a couple years; then stopped working. went to the Seresto collar. pricy, but last 8 months. price didn't matter. oh, the vet had the highest prices for the collar Agway was $20.00 cheaper.
The drops work well for our Mittens as well.
Small dose of Ivermectin.
Ivermectin is hard to find now a days. My daughter is vet tech she said it is getting more expensive and very hard to find.
I've used frontline for 30 years....no ill effects. just be sure to get an accurate weight of you pet so it gets dosed accordingly. I use Heartguard for the heart worms,round and pin as well as tapeworm. I have 3 cat an 1 dog ....no fleas or worms....and don't forget the vax

The wife selects meds around here. Some of the treatments for fleas and parasites are NOT good for your pet’s health. Take the time to research “harmful effects of .......” online before you use them.
BTW, flea collars depend on a flea’s need for moisture, which on a pet means eyes and/or butt. Flea collars are a poisonous (to fleas) barrier only to the fleas on your pet as they move to those moist areas. The collars don’t kill eggs so they never can be 100% effective on your pet, much less your home.

another reason for lots of scratching can be ear mites in cats,
Ollie has bouts of ear mites... I seem to treat his ears once a year or so.
Its good practice to switch out "flea meds" every year or so. It doesnt take long for fleas to develop immunity to what they are exposed to.

The drops on neck have worked well on the bride's 3 monsters - 2 all outside, 1 part timer that naps inside and prowls outside. No ticks or fleas !
